The sequence of events began onboard IndiGo flight 6E 373, traveling from Jaipur to Bengaluru. According to reports, Utkarsh Gautam, a graduate from IIT Bombay, allegedly made an attempt to open the aircraft's safety door while the flight was in the air. This action posed a potential grave safety threat, as unauthorized opening of such doors during flight could lead to catastrophic consequences, including cabin decompression.
Cabin crew members promptly intervened, pulling Gautam back from the door. However, the situation escalated when he allegedly responded with abuse and threats toward the flight attendants. Consequently, he was officially declared an unruly passenger, a designation that triggers specific protocols under aviation regulations.
Detention and Initial Police Report

The matter took a fresh turn when Gautam allegedly posted a series of abusive and defamatory videos on social media platforms X and Instagram later that night. In these posts, he targeted the Bengaluru City police, making false claims that he was "arrested without any reason" and "beaten up at KIA." He also tagged high-profile figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
One particularly inflammatory post reportedly called upon Mumbai police to arrest Bengaluru police officers. Bengaluru police have dismissed these allegations as entirely false and misleading, stating that the posts were intended to distort facts and tarnish the department's reputation.
In response, the police have registered an additional case against Gautam for statements causing public mischief and defamation. Authorities have also requested his family to bring him to Bengaluru for further investigation.
