Husband Strangles Wife to Death in Haryana's Kaithal District
In a shocking and tragic incident in Haryana's Kaithal district, a man allegedly strangled his wife to death. After committing the murder, he rushed to his sister-in-law and confessed to the crime before fleeing the scene.
Details of the Victim and Family
The deceased has been identified as Shalu, aged 30. Originally a resident of Bathinda, she got married to Arun, a resident of Kaithal, in 2018. The couple had two young children—a 6-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy. According to sources, Shalu worked as a labourer to support the family, while Arun was unemployed and struggled with addiction issues.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Murder
It is alleged that Arun used to come home intoxicated every day and often assaulted his wife. On the day of the incident, he returned home drunk and started arguing with Shalu. The argument escalated, leading to her death by strangulation. After the murder, Arun went to his sister-in-law, who was resting in her room, and confessed to killing his wife. He asked her to handle the situation before fleeing.
When the sister-in-law went to their room, she found Shalu lying dead on the bed. She immediately raised an alarm, called the neighbours, and informed the police. With police assistance, the body was sent to the civil hospital for a post-mortem, where doctors declared her dead.
Allegations and Police Response
The victim's family alleged that Arun did not work and was addicted to drugs, with Shalu being the sole breadwinner. Locals reported that the accused also called his mother-in-law after committing the crime. Station House Officer Geeta stated that the police reached the spot immediately after receiving the information.
"Post-mortem has been conducted, and a murder case has been registered. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused," said the police. The investigation is focused on gathering evidence and tracking down Arun, who remains at large.
Broader Implications and Community Impact
This incident highlights severe issues of domestic violence and substance abuse in the region. It has left the local community in shock, with concerns raised about the safety of women and the welfare of the two orphaned children. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the arrest.
