The inauguration event was held at Gandhi Bhavan in Haveri city and was organized by the regional transport department.

Addressing the gathering, SP Vantagodi made it clear that driving without a valid licence is a punishable offence. She expressed deep concern over the recent increase in road accidents and appealed directly to all motorists. Her key advice included obtaining proper driving licences, maintaining vehicles in good condition, ensuring valid insurance policies, and exercising utmost caution on the roads.
Officials Highlight Technical Causes and Global Data
Presiding over the program, Senior Civil Judge and District Legal Services Authority Member Secretary Shrishailaja HV pointed out that technical defects in vehicles can also lead to accidents. She echoed the call for drivers to stay alert and prioritize regular vehicle checks and insurance.
Regional Transport Officer Vinaya Katorkar presented sobering statistics from a World Health Organisation report. She revealed that approximately 1.19 million people die globally in road crashes every year, with another 25 million suffering serious, often life-altering injuries. Katorkar specifically noted that a majority of accidents involving young people stem from traffic rule violations.

Adding to the informational campaign, Motor Vehicle Inspector Sunilkumar H conducted an awareness session using a PowerPoint presentation. The event collectively underscored a multi-pronged approach to road safety, combining enforcement, legal awareness, and public education to tackle the rising menace of road accidents.
