Tragic Mall Fall Claims Life of Newlywed in Guwahati

A devastating incident unfolded in Guwahati on Friday when a 29-year-old man lost his life after falling from the seventh floor of a shopping mall. The victim, identified as Siddhanta Das from the Sonapur area on the outskirts of Kamrup (Metropolitan) district, had been married for just one month prior to the tragic event.

Police Investigation Points to Accidental Fall

Officers from the Paltan Bazar police station have registered the case as an unnatural death and are conducting a thorough investigation. According to Paltan Bazar Officer-in-Charge Kalpajyoti Bhuyan, preliminary findings suggest Das either slipped or lost his balance while on the seventh floor of the mall.

"Based on what we have uncovered so far, Das went up to the seventh floor of the mall," stated OC Bhuyan. "From there, he either slipped or lost his balance and fell to the ground floor. We have also reviewed the mall's CCTV footage to explore the possibility of foul play, but found no evidence of it."

Medical Response and Family Tragedy

Following the fall, Das sustained grievous injuries and was immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the hospital.

The Das family received the heartbreaking news in the early hours of Saturday and rushed to the city from Sonapur. Das's mother shared with media that her son had come to Guwahati with his wife on Friday for work-related purposes.

"I received the news around 8am," the grieving mother recounted. "He had come to the city with his wife on Friday for work. He told me he would attend a friend's birthday and return home. However, he later informed me that he would stay at his in-laws' place as it was raining, assuring me of returning home the next morning."

Birthday Celebration Turns Tragic

Investigations reveal that Das had traveled to Guwahati specifically to celebrate a friend's birthday. After arriving in the city and visiting the mall for the celebration, the unfortunate incident occurred. According to his mother's account, Das had initially dropped his wife at their residence before returning to continue celebrating with his friends.

Police authorities have confirmed that while the case has been registered as an unnatural death, the investigation will continue to ascertain the precise circumstances and cause of death. The Paltan Bazar police station is maintaining regular contact with the victim's family and reviewing all available evidence.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, particularly given Das's recent marriage and the sudden nature of the accident. Mall authorities have cooperated fully with police investigations, providing access to security footage and relevant documentation.
