Tragic Road Accidents in Gujarat Claim Three Lives Within 24 Hours
In a devastating series of events, two separate road accidents in Gujarat have resulted in the loss of three lives within a span of 24 hours, underscoring critical road safety issues in the region. The incidents occurred in Sihor taluka of Bhavnagar district and Visavadar in Junagadh district, leaving families and communities in mourning.
Father and Daughter Killed in Bhavnagar Dumper Collision
On Monday, a tragic accident claimed the lives of 32-year-old Sanjay Parmar and his 9-year-old daughter Harshita, residents of Kajavadar village in Bhavnagar. The duo was returning home on their motorcycle after Harshita had undergone a medical check-up at Jambala Hospital. Around 7:30 PM, near the road connecting Jambala and Kajavadar, their motorcycle was struck by a dump truck, leading to severe injuries.
According to the complaint filed by Sanjay's father, 58-year-old Bogha Parmar, at the Sihor police station, the victims were initially rushed to a nearby private hospital for emergency care. Due to the gravity of their condition, they were subsequently transferred to Sir T Hospital in Bhavnagar, where both were declared dead upon arrival. The Sihor police have registered a case against the dumper driver under Sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, initiating an investigation into the incident.
Young Boy Fatally Hit by Pickup Truck in Junagadh
In a separate and equally heartbreaking incident, an 8-year-old boy, Dhaval Gohil, lost his life in Visavadar, Junagadh district, on Sunday, March 29. The tragedy unfolded around 7:30 PM when Dhaval was playing cricket with other children from his neighbourhood. During the game, the ball rolled onto the road, and as Dhaval went to retrieve it, he was struck by a passing pickup truck. The impact resulted in his immediate death at the scene.
Dhaval, described as the younger of two brothers, has left his family and community in deep sorrow. The Visavadar police station has booked an unknown driver in connection with the accident, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the responsible individual. This incident highlights the dangers faced by children playing near busy roads and the urgent need for enhanced safety measures.
Community and Authorities Respond to the Tragedies
These back-to-back accidents have sparked widespread concern among local residents and authorities regarding road safety in Gujarat. The loss of a father and his young daughter, along with an innocent boy, has prompted calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved infrastructure to prevent such fatalities in the future.
Key points from the incidents include:
- Timing: Both accidents occurred around 7:30 PM, a time when visibility might be reduced, emphasizing the need for caution during evening hours.
- Victims: The victims ranged from children to adults, indicating that road safety affects all age groups.
- Legal Actions: Police have registered cases in both instances, with charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act, reflecting legal recourse against negligent driving.
As investigations continue, the focus remains on raising awareness about safe driving practices and protecting vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and motorcyclists. These tragedies serve as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and fostering a culture of safety on the roads.
