Ghaziabad Road Rage Escalates to Shooting by Armed Bouncers
In a shocking incident of road rage that turned violent, four men, two of them armed with modified rifles, opened fire on a 29-year-old man on a busy road in Crossings Republik, Ghaziabad. The police have swiftly arrested all four accused, who were identified as bouncers employed by a local developer, on charges of attempt to murder. This brazen attack highlights the growing menace of road rage in the city, which has seen multiple similar cases this year.
Details of the Terrifying Incident
According to police reports, the victim, Sumit Chaudhary, had closed his shop in Crossings Republik around 9:30 PM on Tuesday and was driving home in his WagonR. To avoid a traffic jam on ABES Road, he took a service road near Glass Gate. Suddenly, a black Scorpio pulled up from the opposite direction and blocked his car. Two men stepped out and demanded that Chaudhary reverse his vehicle. When he did not comply, they turned abusive and threatened to kill him.
Chaudhary recounted in his police complaint, "They threatened me, saying, 'We chop people up and stuff them in sacks.'" The Scorpio then moved about 100 meters away to the gate of Sushant Aquapolis, where two more occupants emerged, both carrying modified rifles. From close range, the four men fired two rounds at Chaudhary. Miraculously, he managed to escape unhurt, fleeing the scene and later filing a complaint.
Police Action and Arrests
Wave City ACP Priyashri Pal stated that an FIR has been registered at Crossings Republik police station under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 351(3) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The four accused, identified as Deepak, Sachin, Yogendra, and another Deepak, were arrested, and the Scorpio used in the crime was seized.
Initial investigations revealed that the Scorpio was borrowed from a friend by Anil Chauhan, a resident of GH-7 Society in Crossings Republik, for whom the bouncers worked. At the time of the incident, the bouncers were inside the vehicle. Police are probing further into the developer's involvement and the source of the modified rifles.
Rising Trend of Road Rage in Ghaziabad
This incident is not isolated, as Ghaziabad has witnessed several road rage cases in recent months. For instance, on February 13, a Wave City resident was allegedly beaten for 20 minutes and dragged 50 meters after a car collision on NH-9 near Kavi Nagar. In January, a 22-year-old man suffered injuries when a Honda City driver intentionally rammed into him following a minor accident in Kailashpuram near Kamla Nehru Nagar.
These cases underscore a disturbing pattern of aggression on the roads, often escalating to physical violence. Authorities are urging citizens to remain calm during traffic disputes and report any threats immediately to prevent such dangerous confrontations.
Community and Legal Implications
The use of modified rifles by bouncers in a public area raises serious concerns about security and law enforcement in Ghaziabad. Residents of Crossings Republik and surrounding areas have expressed alarm over the incident, calling for stricter regulations on private security personnel and enhanced police patrols.
Legal experts emphasize that such acts of violence, especially involving firearms, warrant severe penalties under the law. The arrest of the bouncers sends a strong message against impunity, but ongoing vigilance is necessary to curb road rage incidents. Police have assured the public that they are intensifying efforts to monitor and address traffic-related conflicts proactively.
