Gaya Doctor's Extortion Case Takes Twist as Wife Disputes Claims
Gaya Doctor's Extortion Case Takes Dramatic Turn

A serious complaint of extortion threats filed by a senior doctor at Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College Hospital (ANMMCH) in Gaya has taken a dramatic and unexpected turn. The case has become murkier after the doctor's wife presented a sharply contrasting narrative, introducing allegations of marital discord and a property dispute into the mix.

Conflicting Narratives Emerge

Dr Satendra Kumar, the professor and head of the neurosurgery department at ANMMCH, lodged a formal police complaint alleging that his wife, Vibha Kumari, received two threatening calls. The caller demanded a hefty sum of Rs 1 crore and threatened to kill her if the money was not paid. According to Dr Kumar's complaint, the first call was received on December 27, 2025, and a second followed on December 31, 2025.

When questioned about the delay in reporting and why his wife did not file the complaint herself, Dr Kumar stated he acted on her behalf. "I did not want my wife to be exposed to the police and the court, and therefore I made the complaint myself," he explained. He attributed the delay to the police requiring amendments to the original complaint.

Wife Alleges Marital Strife and Property Dispute

The plot thickened when Vibha Kumari, a medical graduate currently a homemaker, was contacted. She presented a starkly different version of events. Kumari alleged that her husband has been restricting her movements after she discovered "objectionable and intimate" chats between him and a woman paramedical staff member at the hospital.

"My husband is not allowing me to step out of the house and my voice is being gagged," she claimed. While not entirely certain, she expressed suspicion that the same paramedical staff member "may be behind the threat or extortion call." She also pointed investigators towards a property dispute in the Gewalbigha locality of Gaya involving her husband as another potential motive behind the alleged threats.

Police Probe Multiple Angles

Faced with these contradictory accounts, the police have widened their investigation. Krishna Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Magadh Medical College police station, confirmed that a case has been registered. "The probe will be conducted from all angles, including the doctor–paramedical staff relationship and the property dispute," he stated, adding that it was premature to comment further at this stage.

Dr Kumar, for his part, firmly denied any impropriety in his interactions with the staff member. He described it as a "normal professional interaction" and expressed hope that "reality will ultimately dawn on my wife." Meanwhile, Dr K K Sinha, the superintendent of ANMMCH, revealed that the hospital authorities had not been formally informed about the incident by Dr Kumar.

The case, which began as a straightforward extortion complaint, has now evolved into a complex investigation touching upon personal relationships, professional conduct, and financial disputes, leaving the police to untangle the truth from conflicting testimonies.
