Jaipur Police Arrest Four Men for Sexual Harassment After Viral Video Sparks Outrage

In a swift response to public outcry, Jaipur police on Sunday arrested four individuals for sexually harassing a woman who was riding pillion on a motorcycle. The incident, which occurred on April 9, gained national attention after a video recording of the harassment went viral across various social media platforms, triggering widespread condemnation and demands for justice.

Identification of the Accused and Details of the Crime

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Jaipur South) Rajrishi Raj Varma officially identified the arrested suspects as Manraj Meena (24) and Sudama Meena (24), both residents of Ranipura village in Tonk district. The other two accused are Mahesh Banjara (19), also from Ranipura in Tonk, and Lokesh Banjara (21) from Kirtipura village in Dausa district.

According to police officials, the accused deliberately targeted the woman with the specific intent to outrage her modesty. Their actions included attempting to disrobe her while she was traveling as a pillion rider on a motorcycle, an act described by authorities as premeditated and aimed at causing maximum humiliation and distress.

Police Investigation and Legal Action

DCP Varma explained that once the video surfaced online, it was immediately verified by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and cybercrime teams. Their investigation confirmed that the criminal act occurred within the jurisdiction of the Muhana police station in Jaipur.

Based on this verification, police registered a formal case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 74 which specifically criminalizes assault or the use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty. Additional charges were filed under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Sequence of Events and Police Response

The incident unfolded when the victim was traveling from Surajmal Circle toward New Sanganer Road on a motorcycle. The accused, riding another bike, followed her closely before one of them intentionally touched her back and then attempted to pull up her shirt from behind in what police described as a deliberate attempt to strip her.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Lalit Kumar Sharma and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Mansarovar) Aditya Kakade supervised the investigation operation. A special team led by Muhana Station House Officer Gur Bhupendra Singh was specifically formed to identify and track down the perpetrators.

Extensive Investigation Leads to Arrests

Police conducted an exhaustive investigation that involved scanning footage from more than 500 CCTV cameras across the area and along potential escape routes. Based on the suspects' appearance captured in the viral video, teams conducted extensive field verification and questioned numerous individuals before finally zeroing in on the accused.

Investigators revealed that the accused had been on the run since the incident, frequently changing locations and altering their appearance in attempts to evade arrest. Their eventual capture resulted from sustained efforts and coordinated action by multiple police teams working diligently to bring them to justice.

The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy in accordance with Supreme Court directives regarding cases related to sexual assault.
