A significant fire incident occurred at a military installation in Uttarakhand on Friday afternoon, leading to a large-scale emergency response. The blaze erupted within a storage facility at the Army base located in Jyotirmath, under Chamoli district.
Coordinated Response Brings Blaze Under Control
The fire was reported to have started at around 2 pm on Friday in a store designated for keeping junk material. Immediately, a coordinated effort was launched involving multiple forces. Defence PRO for Dehradun, Colonel Manish Srivastava, confirmed that all prescribed safety and emergency protocols were swiftly activated.
According to police details, the firefighting operation saw the involvement of over 50 Army personnel. They were joined by teams from a nearby camp of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the local fire service department, and the police. This joint effort proved crucial in managing the situation.
No Casualties or Major Damage Reported
After nearly two hours of intense efforts, the combined teams successfully brought the flames under control. Colonel Srivastava provided reassurance, stating, "There was no loss of property and no personnel were injured." The incident was contained to the designated junk store, preventing its spread to other critical areas of the base.
In the aftermath, local authorities have emphasized vigilance. Sub-inspector Devendra Rawat of the Jyotirmath police station mentioned that fire services have been kept on alert following the incident. Furthermore, establishments in the vicinity have been instructed to review and adhere to necessary safety precautions to prevent similar fire hazards in the future.
