A tragic road accident on a key Bihar route has resulted in one fatality and left multiple passengers injured. The incident occurred late on Saturday evening in Nalanda district, casting a shadow over a group returning from a somber ceremony.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The accident took place near Kamta Halt on the Hilsa-Fatuha road. A bus, which was returning from a cremation event in Fatuha, collided with a truck. According to Hilsa police station officer Abhijeet Kumar, the bus rear-ended the truck during an overtaking maneuver. The impact of the collision was severe, causing significant damage to the bus and jamming its doors shut, trapping the occupants inside.
Rescue Operation by Local Residents
With the doors rendered inoperable, around 30 passengers were stuck inside the damaged vehicle. Alert locals swiftly intervened at the scene. They broke the windows of the bus to create an exit and successfully rescued all the trapped individuals. While some of the rescued passengers sustained minor injuries, the bus conductor was not as fortunate.
Vijay Kumar Singh, aged 40, the conductor of the bus, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. He was declared dead on the spot. The timely efforts of the locals prevented a potentially higher casualty count.
Police Investigation and Aftermath
Officer Abhijeet Kumar confirmed the sequence of events, stating that the bus had hit the truck from behind. The police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances leading to the fatal road accident in Nalanda. The incident highlights the persistent dangers on this stretch of road and raises questions about driving practices, especially during overtaking.
The bus, which sustained heavy damage in the front, was towed from the site. The injured passengers received initial medical aid. This tragic event on the Hilsa-Fatuha road serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of risky driving maneuvers on Indian highways.
