Masked Trio Loots Rs 50 Lakh Gold Jewellery at Gunpoint in Faridabad Shop
In a brazen daylight robbery, three masked men looted approximately Rs 50 lakh worth of gold jewellery from a jeweller's shop in Faridabad's Sarurpur village on Wednesday afternoon. The entire incident, which unfolded around 1:30 PM, was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the premises, providing crucial evidence for the ongoing police investigation.
Details of the Armed Robbery
The robbery occurred at Shriji Jewellers, owned by Sanjay, a resident of Faridabad's Sector 85. According to police reports, the accused arrived on a red Apache motorcycle with their faces concealed under helmets. While one suspect remained outside as a lookout, the other two entered the shop pretending to be customers.
Initially, the duo asked the shopkeeper to display gold ornaments. However, they soon revealed a knife and demanded that he place the jewellery into a bag. When the shopkeeper resisted, one of the men pulled out a pistol and threatened to shoot him if he raised an alarm. Intimidated by the firearm, the shopkeeper complied, packing the jewellery into a bag before the trio fled on the motorcycle.
Police Response and Investigation
Teams from the Mujessar police station and crime branch swiftly arrived at the scene after receiving information about the robbery. They immediately began scanning footage from nearby cameras to trace the suspects. An officer noted that the motorcycle used in the robbery did not have a number plate, complicating efforts to identify the vehicle.
A case has been registered under sections 309 (robbery), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (act done by several persons) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act. The police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the culprits.
Impact and Local Concerns
The shopkeeper informed police that a large quantity of ready-made jewellery was stored at the shop due to the ongoing wedding season. He added that a customer had collected some ornaments shortly before the incident; otherwise, the value of the stolen jewellery could have been significantly higher. The trio escaped with about 350 grams of gold jewellery, estimated to be worth around Rs 50 lakh.
The incident has triggered concern among residents of the area. Locals pointed out that the shop is located inside the village, where there is usually regular public movement. Many suspect that the robbery may have involved prior reconnaissance, given the precise timing and execution of the crime.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they intensify their search for the masked men responsible for this high-value theft.
