Neighbourhood Drainage Dispute Turns Violent as Pet Dog Attacks Family in Dombivli
A seemingly routine cleaning task at a housing society in Dombivli, Kalyan, spiraled into a violent confrontation between neighbours, culminating in a shocking incident where a pet dog was allegedly set upon one of the parties, leaving two individuals injured. The altercation, which has exposed deep-seated tensions within the community, occurred at the Lodha Heaven society and has now led to a formal police investigation.
From Verbal Spat to Physical Assault
The incident unfolded when members of the Yogi family, along with two hired workers, began cleaning a drainage chamber situated behind their residence. This action was met with immediate objection from their neighbours, the Tiwari family—comprising Santosh Tiwari, Anuradha Tiwari, and Kritika Tiwari. What started as a heated verbal argument quickly escalated into physical violence.
According to police reports, the Tiwari family allegedly assaulted the Yogi family members during the dispute. In a disturbing turn of events, amidst the chaos, they are accused of unleashing their pet dog on the Yogis. The two workers present at the scene reportedly fled in panic as the situation deteriorated.
Injuries and Hospitalization
The dog attack resulted in injuries to Manoj Yogi and his son, both of whom were bitten during the altercation. Manoj Yogi required medical attention and underwent treatment at a hospital for three days, highlighting the severity of the incident. The injuries have added a grave dimension to what began as a neighbourhood disagreement.
Long-Standing Feud and Police Action
Anju Manoj Yogi, the wife of the complainant and the building secretary of the society, shed light on the underlying issues fueling the conflict. She alleged that the dispute is rooted in a long-standing problem, stating, "The Tiwari family has encroached upon society space, and there have been frequent arguments on this over the past few years. On the day of the incident, they started the fight and assaulted us before setting their dog on us."
Based on a formal complaint filed by the Yogi family on Monday, the Manpada police have registered a case against the three members of the Tiwari family. Sandipan Shinde, senior police inspector of Manpada police station, confirmed, "An offence has been registered against three members of the Tiwari family, but no arrest has been made as yet." The police are conducting a further probe into the matter to ascertain the full sequence of events and determine appropriate legal actions.
Broader Implications
This incident underscores how minor neighbourhood disputes can escalate into serious violent confrontations, especially when compounded by pre-existing tensions. The involvement of a pet animal in the attack adds a unique and alarming aspect to the case, raising questions about safety and conflict resolution within residential communities.
As the investigation progresses, residents of Lodha Heaven society and the wider Dombivli area are left reflecting on the importance of maintaining cordial neighbourly relations and addressing grievances through proper channels to prevent such unfortunate episodes.
