Delhi Traffic Police Issues Diversion Plan for New Year & Ekadashi Rush
Delhi Traffic Diversions for New Year, Ekadashi Celebrations

In anticipation of significant crowds for New Year's Day and the religious observance of Ekadashi, the Delhi Traffic Police has announced that traffic restrictions and diversions will remain in effect across the national capital on Thursday. The police have issued detailed advisories for several key stretches where heavy congestion is expected, urging commuters to plan accordingly.

Heavy Rush Expected at Major Temples

Prominent religious sites are likely to witness a massive footfall, leading to potential traffic snarls in their vicinity. The Khatu Shyam Delhi Dham Mandir on NH-44 and the Shri Mata Jhandewalan Mandir in Paharganj are specifically highlighted as focal points for devotees. Authorities predict that vehicular movement on NH-44 and surrounding roads will be slow, especially during peak hours.

To manage the flow, traffic may be diverted for commercial vehicles at critical points like the Singhu border, Bakoli on Urban Extension Road-II, and the Bakoli village cut. Commuters are strongly advised to use alternate routes such as UER-II and the Palla-Bakhtawarpur road. The police have also emphasized the importance of avoiding roadside parking to prevent unnecessary bottlenecks.

Central & South Delhi Face Congestion

In central Delhi, areas around Rani Jhansi Road are expected to face congestion due to the rush at Jhandewalan Mandir. Motorists have been suggested to use DBG Road, New Rohtak Road, or other adjoining roads during busy periods for a smoother commute.

The situation in south Delhi's Saket will also be challenging, with traffic diversions planned around major shopping hubs like Select Citywalk, DLF Avenue, and MGF Metropolitan Mall. These arrangements will be effective from 12 noon, with diversions starting from 2 pm. Key affected roads include Press Enclave Road and internal stretches of Saket and Pushp Vihar.

Several specific restrictions will be enforced in the Saket area:

  • Median cuts between Sheikh Sarai and Hauz Rani will remain closed.
  • Heavy vehicles and DTC/cluster buses will be prohibited on Press Enclave Road.
  • Buses will not be allowed to travel towards Pushp Vihar from the MB Road/Asian Market red light.

Alternate Routes and Commuter Advisory

The traffic police have laid out suggested alternate paths for those travelling between areas like Chirag Delhi, Qutub Minar, Khanpur, Sangam Vihar, and Sainik Farm. These include using routes via MB Road, Lado Sarai, and the TB Hospital red light to bypass the most congested zones.

The overarching message from the Delhi Traffic Police is for all motorists to plan their journeys in advance, follow instructions from personnel on the ground, and allow for extra travel time to account for delays. Real-time traffic updates can be accessed through the police's official social media platforms and helpline numbers.
