In a significant crackdown on drug peddling in the national capital, the Delhi Police arrested a woman and seized a substantial quantity of heroin along with various drug-related items in the Sultanpuri area of northwest Delhi. The arrest took place on December 25 following vigilant action by a police patrol team.
Vigilant Patrol Leads to Suspicious Activity
The incident unfolded when a police team was conducting its routine checks in the vicinity of Rain Basera Park along the Nangloi–Sultanpuri Road. According to DCP (Outer) Sachin Sharma, the officials noticed a woman standing amidst a small crowd while conspicuously holding a white polythene bag. As the patrol moved closer, the crowd quickly dispersed, and the woman attempted to flee the spot, which immediately raised the officers' suspicions.
Chase, Arrest, and Recovery of Heroin
The police team swiftly chased and apprehended the woman. A search of the polythene bag she was carrying led to the discovery of six small pouches containing a suspicious powdery substance. The material was subjected to a field test, which confirmed it to be heroin, with a total weight of 9.14 grams. During her personal search, the police also confiscated Rs 4,200 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from the sale of narcotic substances.
Past Record and Raid on Residence
Following the arrest on the spot, the police registered a formal case under the stringent Section 21(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Sultanpuri police station. Authorities revealed that the accused woman had a prior history, having been previously involved in another NDPS case.
In a further development, the police conducted a raid at the arrested woman's residence. This search yielded a significant haul of drug paraphernalia, including:
- 12 syringes
- 12 needles
- 12 vials of injectable substances
- 12 buprenorphine tablets
The seizure of these items indicates the accused's possible involvement in a wider network of drug consumption and distribution. The investigation into the case is ongoing as police work to uncover potential links and suppliers in the chain.
