Delhi Man's Motorcycle Theft Spree Ends: Posing as Buyer, He Vanished on Test Rides
Delhi Man's Motorcycle Theft Spree Ends After Test Ride Scam

Delhi Man's Elaborate Motorcycle Theft Scheme Unraveled by Police

It all started with a confident demeanor and a request for a test drive. To the sales staff at a Vijay Vihar showroom in Rohini, Punit Satija appeared to be the perfect customer—a polished, well-spoken individual who seemed knowledgeable about premium motorcycles. He asked to test ride a bike, twisted the throttle, and then disappeared into the chaotic Delhi traffic, leaving the showroom employees in a state of shock. His criminal spree finally came to an end on Saturday when authorities apprehended him in the Bhalaswa Dairy area of Outer Delhi.

Investigation Launched After Missing Bike Report

The incident first came to light last Friday when a motorcycle was reported missing during what was supposed to be a routine test ride. Police immediately registered a case, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Shashank Jaiswal assembled a specialized team to investigate the disappearance. The investigative team quickly identified Satija as the primary suspect. Through coordinated raids in the Bhalswa Dairy locality, officers arrested Satija and discovered him in possession of a stolen Jawa 42 Bobber motorcycle, which was allegedly taken from the Seemapuri area.

From Showroom Intern to Alleged Master Thief

Satija, a B.Com graduate, once completed a six-month internship as a showroom salesman, where he gained insider knowledge about how luxury motorcycle dealerships operate. Following this, he attempted to run a car accessories business in Rewari, investing two and a half years and reportedly losing approximately Rs. 25 lakh in the process. Since 2025, he had been working as a daily-wage laborer, a far cry from the glamorous world of high-end motorcycles he once aspired to be part of.

During police interrogation, Satija allegedly confessed to orchestrating multiple motorcycle thefts across the Delhi-NCR region. Authorities have recovered five additional premium motorcycles from the Burari area, bringing the total number of cases linked to him to nine. Police officials stated that he had perfected a deceptive method: posing as a legitimate customer interested in purchasing a bike, requesting a test ride, and then vanishing with the vehicle once outside the showroom's vicinity.

Widespread Theft Operation Across Prominent Localities

Investigators revealed that his alleged thefts spanned numerous prominent localities, including Vijay Vihar, Saket, Seemapuri, Tilak Nagar, Model Town, Moti Nagar, Paharganj, Civil Lines, Gurgaon, and various other parts of Delhi. Among the recovered motorcycles were premium models such as the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 and three Jawa 42 Bobber bikes. Police are continuing their probe to determine whether Satija acted alone or had accomplices, and if there are additional stolen vehicles that remain to be recovered.

The case highlights a sophisticated crime operation that exploited the trust-based system of test rides at motorcycle dealerships. Authorities are now reviewing security protocols at showrooms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
