In a swift operation, the Delhi Police apprehended a young man on Wednesday, effectively thwarting his alleged plan to carry out a violent attack in the Sultanpuri area. The police action came after a specific tip-off regarding the suspect's movements and intentions.
Tip-Off Leads to Swift Police Action
Acting on credible intelligence, the Outer District police were alerted about a suspect roaming in the Sultanpuri locality. The individual was reportedly carrying an illegal firearm and was planning to attack two persons with whom he had been involved in a quarrel the previous night. The police immediately mobilized a team to intercept him.
The Arrest and Evidence Recovered
A trap was laid at the identified location. DCP (Outer) Sachin Sharma stated that when the police team approached, the suspect tried to flee but was apprehended after a brief chase. The arrested individual was identified as 21-year-old Divyansh, a resident of Mangolpuri.
Upon search, the police recovered a country-made pistol and two live cartridges from his possession. A further examination of his mobile phone revealed several photographs and videos where he was flaunting the illegal weapon. These videos had been uploaded by him on various social media platforms with the alleged intent to instill fear among local youth and build a reputation as a criminal.
Past Record and Motive Behind the Plot
During interrogation, Divyansh disclosed that his motive was revenge. He told the police that he intended to target two individuals who had allegedly assaulted him and his friend a day before the planned attack. The investigation also uncovered that Divyansh had previously been arrested in an attempt to murder case.
Police revealed that the weapon was supplied to him by an associate from Aman Vihar in Rohini, who is currently in judicial custody. The case highlights the dangerous nexus of social media misuse for intimidation and access to illegal arms for settling personal scores.
The timely intervention by the Delhi Police prevented a potential violent incident, ensuring the safety of the intended targets. Further legal proceedings are underway.
