A tragic incident at a bustling market in Tamil Nadu has claimed the life of a daily wage labourer. A 62-year-old man died after being run over by a mobile crane near the famous Gandhi Market in Trichy on Tuesday morning.
Victim Identified as Load Worker from Pudukottai
The victim has been identified as S Ganesan, aged 62. He was a resident of Mathur in the Pudukottai district. According to police sources, Ganesan worked as a load worker in the vegetable market section of Gandhi Market, carrying goods for daily wages.
How the Fatal Accident Unfolded
The unfortunate event occurred on Tuesday morning. Ganesan was walking near the market area with a sack of vegetables on his shoulder. Simultaneously, a mobile crane was moving towards the market.
As the crane approached the market, the sack Ganesan was carrying allegedly made contact with the vehicle. This contact caused him to lose his balance. He tragically fell beneath the moving crane and was run over. Officials confirmed that he died instantly on the spot.
Police Action and Investigation
Personnel from the traffic north investigation wing quickly arrived at the scene. They retrieved the body and sent it to the Trichy General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The Gandhi Market police have registered a formal case in connection with the death. The case has been filed under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for 'unnatural death'. Following the registration of the case, the police took the crane operator into custody.
The operator has been identified as S Palani, a 40-year-old man from Subramaniyapuram. The investigation into the precise circumstances leading to the accident is ongoing.
