Child Labour Rescue Operation in Guwahati Uncovers Six Years of Exploitation

In a significant intervention against child exploitation, authorities in Assam have rescued a 12-year-old girl from domestic servitude in Guwahati's Panjabari area. The operation, conducted on Sunday night, was led by the District Labour Task Force (DLTF) in collaboration with the Assam Centre for Rural Development and personnel from Dispur Police Station.

Operation Based on Tip-Off Leads to Dramatic Discovery

The rescue mission was initiated following specific information about the illegal employment of a minor at a residential property. Officials reported that the child was discovered in distressing physical and mental condition, with visible bruises indicating prolonged neglect and systematic abuse.

"The employers have been identified as Amarin Akhtar Lashkar and Baharul Haque Lashkar. The minor had been working as a domestic help for the past six years," confirmed an official from the DLTF.

Employers Attempt to Conceal Child During Raid

During the operation, the employers initially denied the presence of any child from Silchar in their residence and refused to cooperate with authorities. Despite their attempts to mislead officials, a comprehensive search of the premises revealed the girl concealed in a box under a bed, in what appeared to be a deliberate effort to evade detection.

Legal Action and Rehabilitation Measures

Dispur police have registered a formal case against the employers for violating child labour laws and related offenses. Meanwhile, the rescued minor has been placed in protective custody where she is receiving comprehensive support including:

  • Immediate medical examination and treatment
  • Professional psychological counselling
  • Structured rehabilitation support
  • Legal assistance for her protection

This case highlights the persistent challenge of child labour in domestic settings and underscores the importance of community vigilance and prompt reporting of such violations to authorities.
