In a tragic road accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, a young Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) prosecutor lost his life. The Jammu and Kashmir police have subsequently arrested the driver allegedly responsible for the fatal collision.

Details of the Tragic Accident

The incident occurred on Thursday near Banihal in Ramban district. Sheikh Adil Nabi, aged 35, was critically injured when his Alto K-10 car was hit from behind by a speeding Mahindra Scorpio. Nabi, a resident of Kandipora village in Bijbehara, south Kashmir, was returning home at the time of the crash.

He was initially rushed to the sub-district hospital in Banihal. Given the severity of his injuries, he was later shifted to the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar. Despite medical efforts, Nabi succumbed to his injuries around 10 pm on Thursday, as confirmed by family sources.

Police Action and Legal Proceedings

Following the crash, the Jammu and Kashmir police swiftly registered a First Information Report (FIR). The authorities seized the involved Scorpio vehicle and took its driver into custody. The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Nadirgund Peerbagh in Srinagar.

The legal process is now underway, with police investigating the exact circumstances that led to the high-speed collision on the crucial national highway.

A Promising Career Cut Short

The untimely death of Sheikh Adil Nabi has sent shockwaves through the legal community and beyond. Nabi had successfully cleared the prestigious UPSC examination in 2024 and had recently been appointed as a public prosecutor with the CBI in Chandigarh, marking the beginning of a promising career in public service.

His funeral prayers were held on Friday, attended by hundreds of mourners, including colleagues, friends, and family members, all grieving the loss of a bright young professional. The incident highlights the perennial issue of road safety on the challenging Jammu-Srinagar highway.
