BTech Student Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Grandfather in Prayagraj Land Dispute
In a shocking incident from Prayagraj, a 21-year-old BTech student has been arrested by Kaushambi police for the alleged murder of his own grandfather. The crime reportedly stemmed from a bitter dispute over the sale of a piece of land, highlighting how property conflicts can escalate into fatal violence within families.
Brutal Attack Following Days of Pressure
According to police officials, the accused identified as Nitin Kumar of Rampur Dhamava (Saini) locality allegedly axed his grandfather Babulal to death after the elderly man refused to sell a parcel of land. Investigators revealed that Nitin had been mounting significant pressure on his grandfather for several days leading up to the incident, demanding that the land be sold to generate money.
The violent confrontation reached its tragic conclusion on March 7, when Nitin reportedly attacked Babulal with both an axe and an iron rod. The brutality of the assault left the grandfather dead at the scene, creating shockwaves through the local community and prompting immediate police action.
Grandmother's Alert Leads to Swift Police Response
The crime came to light when Gulzara Devi, the victim's wife and Nitin's grandmother, informed the Saini police about the horrific incident. Authorities responded promptly by registering a First Information Report (FIR) and immediately forming two specialized teams dedicated to apprehending the suspect.
Police investigation revealed that Nitin had returned to his family home approximately two weeks prior to the murder after discontinuing his BTech studies at a private educational institute located in Gautam Budh Nagar. This return to the family residence appears to have coincided with the escalation of tensions over the land dispute that ultimately turned deadly.
Broader Context of Property-Related Violence
This tragic case underscores a disturbing pattern of property disputes leading to violence within families across various regions. While land ownership and inheritance matters frequently create tensions between relatives, this incident represents an extreme escalation where a young student allegedly turned to murder against his own grandfather.
The Kaushambi police have emphasized that the accused has admitted to the crime during interrogation, providing details about the ongoing pressure he had been applying regarding the land sale. This confession, combined with evidence from the crime scene and witness statements, has strengthened the case against the BTech dropout.
As the legal proceedings move forward, this case serves as a grim reminder of how family conflicts over property can spiral out of control, sometimes with fatal consequences. The local community remains shaken by the brutality of the attack, particularly given the familial relationship between victim and perpetrator.
