Bomb Threat Email Targets Bihar Assembly in Patna, Security Heightened
The Bihar Legislative Assembly in Patna was thrust into a security crisis on Friday after receiving a bomb threat via email. The alarming message, which warned of an impending explosion, triggered an immediate and comprehensive response from authorities, leading to heightened security measures across the assembly premises.
Emergency Meeting and Official Alerts
Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar swiftly took cognizance of the serious threat. He convened an urgent emergency meeting with senior officials from the Assembly Secretariat to assess the situation and coordinate a response. Following the discussions, the Speaker directed the in-charge secretary to immediately inform Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit and Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar about the developing threat.
A formal statement issued by the Bihar Assembly Secretariat confirmed the incident, stating, “Today, an email threatening to blow up the Bihar Assembly with a bomb was received. The Speaker of the Bihar Assembly, Prem Kumar, immediately took cognisance of the matter and held a meeting with senior officials of the Assembly Secretariat.” The directive emphasized the need for an immediate security inspection of the entire assembly complex.
Immediate Security Deployment and Panic
Upon receiving the threat on the official email account of the Assembly Secretariat, panic spread among staff and officials. Security agencies were alerted without delay, leading to a significant tightening of security arrangements both within the assembly premises and in the surrounding areas of Patna.
Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma confirmed the threat, noting, “A threat was received through email. Currently, an investigation is underway.” Teams from various police and security agencies rushed to the site to initiate a thorough investigation and manage the security response.
Comprehensive Security Measures Implemented
In response to the bomb threat, authorities implemented a multi-layered security protocol:
- Bomb Disposal Squads and Dog Units: Specialized bomb disposal teams along with sniffer dog squads were deployed to conduct a meticulous and thorough search of the entire assembly building and its grounds.
- Enhanced Police Presence: Additional police forces were stationed around the assembly building to monitor and secure the perimeter.
- Intensive Screening: Rigorous screening procedures were enforced for all individuals entering or exiting the assembly building. Every vehicle and person was subjected to detailed checks to prevent any potential security breach or untoward incident.
Ongoing Investigation to Trace Threat Source
Police sources have indicated that the investigation is now focused on tracing the origin of the threatening email. Cyber experts have been integrated into the investigative team to assist in tracking the digital footprint of the communication.
According to officials, “Security agencies are now working to trace the source of the email through which the threat was sent. Cyber experts were also roped into the investigation. The probe is being conducted keeping every aspect in mind. Efforts are underway to identify who issued the threat and from where the mail was sent.” The probe remains active and comprehensive, examining all possible angles to identify the perpetrators behind this security scare.
