Bomb Threat Email in Tamil Triggers Panic and Evacuation at Barwani District Court

Panic gripped the district and sessions court in Barwani, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday after authorities received a bomb threat via email, prompting immediate evacuation and a large-scale security sweep of the premises. The incident caused significant disruption, with courtrooms, lawyers' chambers, and nearby shops being shut down as a precautionary measure.

Threatening Email Received in Tamil Language

District and Sessions Judge Mahendra Kumar Jain informed media that an email written in Tamil arrived at the court's official email ID around 12 pm. "After translation, the message read: '15 poisonous bombs had been planted across the court premises and would explode at 1 pm'," he stated. Judge Jain noted that although it was a holiday, the e-service centre was operational, with some staff and lawyers present at the time of the threat.

Immediate Police Response and Evacuation

Superintendent of Police Padma Vilochan Shukla detailed the swift police action. "The police were alerted around 12 noon, following which a team from Kotwali police station rushed to the spot and cleared the entire premises as a precaution," he said. Senior police and administrative officials quickly arrived at the scene to coordinate the response.

Intensive searches were conducted across the court complex with the assistance of a dog squad. Additionally, a bomb disposal squad was deployed from Khargone, located approximately 90 kilometers away. To ensure public safety, traffic on roads adjoining the court was temporarily restricted during the operation.

No Suspicious Objects Found; Investigation Ongoing

Despite the thorough inspection, police teams found no suspicious objects or explosives on the premises. "Police teams conducted a thorough inspection of the entire premises, but no suspicious object was found," SP Shukla confirmed. He added that efforts are actively underway to trace the source of the threatening email, with cyber experts examining its origin to identify the perpetrator.

Pattern of Similar Hoax Threats in Madhya Pradesh

This incident is not isolated. Similar email threats have recently been reported in other cities across Madhya Pradesh, including Bhopal, Indore, Satna, and Maihar. In all these cases, the threats turned out to be hoaxes, causing unnecessary panic and diverting critical security resources. Authorities are investigating possible connections between these incidents to determine if they are part of a coordinated campaign of disruption.

The Barwani bomb threat highlights ongoing challenges in managing cybersecurity threats that target public institutions. It underscores the need for enhanced vigilance and rapid response protocols to handle such situations effectively while minimizing public disruption.
