Ranchi: A police constable posted in the accounts section of the Bokaro superintendent of police (SP) office was arrested on Thursday, and Rs 8.75 lakh was recovered from his residence in Bokaro in connection with the Bokaro treasury scam. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to four, according to a statement from the criminal investigation department (CID).
Details of the Arrest
The constable, identified as Kajal Mandal, was an accomplice of the key accused, Kaushal Kumar Pandey. The CID stated that the seized cash was transferred by Pandey to Mandal's account under the travel allowance head.
Formation of SIT
Acting on the directives of the state government, the CID formed an eight-member special investigation team (SIT) to probe the illegal withdrawals from the treasuries of Bokaro and Hazaribag districts. The investigation is being conducted under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. The SIT is led by Inspector General Pankaj Kamboj.
Previous Seizures and Arrests
Last Thursday, the SIT seized documents related to a 4.08 decimal plot with a three-story house and a 4.98 decimal plot at Telidih in Chas. Additionally, Rs 1.93 crore transferred to various bank accounts and fixed deposits totaling Rs 18 lakh were frozen. Other individuals arrested in this case include Satish and Ashok Kumar Bhandari.
SIT Composition
The SIT comprises two superintendents of police (SP), three deputy SPs, and two inspectors.
