In a high-level review meeting held on Tuesday, the Bihar government issued comprehensive directives to ensure law, order, and public comfort during the upcoming New Year celebrations across the state. Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit chaired the virtual meeting, which saw participation from all District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police.
Enhanced Surveillance and Security Measures
The meeting focused extensively on security preparedness for December 31 and January 1. Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit instructed officials to intensify surveillance at all crowded places, including major markets, public venues, and key intersections. A key directive was to ensure CCTV cameras are installed at all identified sensitive locations and the functionality of existing cameras is regularly checked to prevent any security lapses.
Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar addressed specific challenges anticipated during the year-end festivities. He highlighted the increased demand for liquor and intoxicants among youth during this period. "Police will have to work with full alertness," Kumar stated, ordering regular raids and strict action based on any information received about alcohol or drugs.
The DGP also warned against the heightened activity of biker gangs on such occasions, directing that they be kept under strict watch and necessary action be taken. Furthermore, he emphasized deploying adequate police forces at pilgrimage sites expecting a surge in devotees.
Public Welfare and Health Services in Focus
Keeping the prevailing cold wave conditions in mind, Chief Secretary Amrit directed district administrations to ensure adequate bonfire arrangements for the needy. Stressing uninterrupted health services, he ordered inspections of hospitals to confirm there is no shortage of blankets for patients and that doctors and medical staff are present on duty punctually.
The administration also plans to run de-addiction awareness campaigns in blocks, districts, schools, and other institutions. The aim is to raise public awareness and encourage cooperation with the police administration during the festive period.
Operational Readiness and Border Vigilance
The meeting outlined several operational protocols. Senior officers were made responsible for properly briefing and debriefing their subordinate officers and police personnel to ensure clarity of duties. Intensive frisking and checking drives were ordered, particularly in border areas, to prevent the trafficking of drugs and illegal weapons. Officials were directed to immediately interrogate any suspicious persons.
The high-level meeting was attended by Development Commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh, ADG (Law and Order) Pankaj Darad, and other senior officials, underscoring the state's comprehensive approach to managing the year-end celebrations.
