Tension gripped the Jagjeevan Ram Nagar area of Bengaluru on Sunday night following a disturbing incident where a religious procession came under attack. According to police reports shared with PTI, miscreants allegedly hurled stones at a chariot carrying a deity during a procession from the local Om Shakti temple.
Attack on Devotees and Injuries Reported
The police confirmed that a formal complaint was lodged regarding the stone-pelting incident. Sources revealed that the attack resulted in injuries to at least two individuals. A child sustained a head injury, and a young girl was also reportedly struck on the head during the chaotic scene. The procession was abruptly disrupted, leaving the community in shock and anger.
Devotees Stage Protest, Demand Immediate Action
In the aftermath of the alleged assault, a large group of devotees gathered outside the Jagjeevan Ram Nagar police station to voice their outrage. They staged a vigorous protest, demanding swift and decisive action against those responsible for the attack. The protesters raised concerns, claiming that similar incidents had occurred in the past, and they insisted on the immediate registration of a First Information Report (FIR) to ensure a proper investigation.
Police Response and Investigation Underway
Responding to the situation, the police assured the public that an FIR has been officially filed and a thorough investigation is now in progress. To manage the unrest and prevent any further escalation, security was significantly tightened across the area. Senior police officials, including West Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Yatish NB, personally visited the police station to assess the situation firsthand.
The police issued a statement affirming that the situation was under control. They emphasized, "Necessary action will be taken against those involved once their identities are established." The authorities are now focused on identifying the culprits through the ongoing probe while maintaining a heightened security presence to ensure peace in the locality.
