Shocking Murder in Bengaluru's Electronics City Initially Mistaken for Road Accident

What began as a routine road crash report in Bengaluru's Ananthnagar Road area late Sunday evening has unfolded into a bone-chilling murder investigation that has stunned the city's Electronics City neighborhood. The incident, which occurred on a deserted stretch of road, reveals a disturbing tale of friendship turned fatal.

From Accident to Murder Investigation

The case took a dramatic turn when M Narayana, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Electronics City, noticed the dashcam installed on the vehicle involved in what was initially reported as an accident. His decision to examine the footage revealed a horrifying truth: this was no ordinary road mishap but a deliberate act of violence.

Dashcam footage clearly showed that Roshan Hegde, a 36-year-old software engineer working with a firm in Domlur, had intentionally accelerated his Tata Safari SUV and rammed it first against a compound wall, then reversed and crashed it again into a tree. The victim, 33-year-old Prashanth M, was clinging to the front-left side of the vehicle during both impacts, suffering fatal injuries that claimed his life on the spot.

Friendship Turns Deadly After Drunken Altercation

Police investigations have revealed that the two men were actually friends whose relationship soured dramatically over the weekend. According to authorities, a group including both men had gathered to play cricket in Kammasandra on Sunday evening, after which they consumed alcohol together.

"In a drunken stupor, Prashanth allegedly approached Roshan seeking a lighter and abused him, triggering a heated argument," explained a police officer familiar with the case. "The situation quickly escalated into physical violence, with both men attacking each other with beer bottles."

As tensions reached their peak, Roshan attempted to leave the scene in his SUV. What happened next was captured in chilling detail by the vehicle's dashcam.

The Fatal 600-Meter Drive

Police reconstruction of events indicates that as Roshan drove away, Prashanth jumped onto the SUV's left footboard and clung desperately to the front-left window. The dashcam recorded Roshan initially driving at approximately 35 kilometers per hour before accelerating on a deserted stretch of road.

The footage captured more than just the crash - it also recorded the two men abusing and threatening each other during the fateful drive. Investigators believe Sunday's violent altercation was actually the culmination of a feud that began during a cricket match played the previous day.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the incident, a passerby who witnessed the crash scene alerted authorities, believing it to be a routine road accident. Roshan was initially rushed to a hospital for treatment, where doctors discovered his tongue was almost severed, requiring minor surgery.

DCP Narayana told reporters: "After confirming through dashcam footage that this was an intentional act, we went to the hospital where Roshan was undergoing treatment. He was discharged on Monday and immediately taken into custody for interrogation."

Based on a formal complaint filed by Prashanth's mother Anu, police have registered a murder case against Roshan Hegde. The accused, a resident of Vignananagar who originally hails from Udupi district, now faces serious charges for the premeditated killing of his former friend.

Community Impact and Investigation Details

Prashanth M was a resident of Veerasandra in Electronics City, while Roshan lived in nearby Vignananagar. The case has sent shockwaves through Bengaluru's tech corridor, where both men were part of the professional community.

Police are continuing their investigation into all aspects of the case, including:

  • The complete timeline of events leading to the fatal confrontation
  • Examination of all available digital evidence including the dashcam footage
  • Statements from witnesses who were present during the cricket game and subsequent drinking session
  • Background investigation into the relationship between the two men

This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of how quickly disputes can escalate into violence, particularly when alcohol is involved. The use of dashcam footage as crucial evidence highlights how technology is increasingly playing a vital role in modern criminal investigations, turning what might have been recorded as an accident into a clear case of murder.
