In preparation for the massive crowds expected for New Year's Eve celebrations, the Bengaluru City Police has announced a comprehensive traffic management plan. Significant restrictions on vehicle movement and parking will be enforced across key party hubs from December 31, 2025, to the early hours of January 1, 2026.
Core Restrictions in Central Business District
Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh stated that to manage the large gatherings anticipated on MG Road, Brigade Road, Residency Road, St. Marks Road, and Church Street, stringent measures are being implemented. A notable first is the prohibition on people re-entering MG Road and Brigade Road after one visit. The police have also deployed facial recognition cameras at crucial points.
From 8 pm on December 31 to 2 am on January 1, entry for all vehicles except police and emergency services is banned on several roads:
- MG Road from Anil Kumble Circle to Residency Road Junction.
- Brigade Road from Cauvery Emporium Junction to Opera Junction.
- Church Street from Brigade Road Junction to Museum Road Junction.
- Residency Road from Ashirvadam Junction to Mayo Hall Junction.
- Museum Road from MG Road Junction to Old Madras Bank Road (SBI) Circle.
- Rest House Road from Museum Road Junction to Brigade Road Junction.
Furthermore, parking will be prohibited from 4 pm on December 31 to 3 am on January 1 on extended stretches of these roads. Vehicle owners must vacate their cars from these zones by 4 pm on the 31st or face penalties.
Alternative Routes and Public Transport Push
The police have outlined detailed diversions. For instance, vehicles from Queen's Circle to Halasuru can take a left at Anil Kumble Circle, proceed to BRV Junction, turn right onto Cubbon Road, and head towards MG Road near Webbs Junction. The public is strongly urged to use public transport like Namma Metro, BMTC buses, autos, and cabs.
For the first time, the police are organizing special BMTC bus and Tempo Traveller services on New Year's Eve. These will operate from designated starting points like Anil Kumble Junction, Trinity Circle, and Mayo Hall Junction, covering routes to areas such as Banashankari, Electronic City, Whitefield, and Bannerghatta.
Designated parking areas have been identified, including the first floor of the Shivajinagar BMTC Complex, U B City, Garuda Mall, and specified sections of Kamaraj Road.
Key Restrictions in Koramangala and Other Areas
In Koramangala, temporary traffic restrictions will be in place on YD Math Road up to Microland Junction at Sukh Sagar Junction. Side roads like JNC Road and 17th H Main Road will also be affected. Alternative routes via Madiwala Checkpost and Aiyappa Junction have been specified.
Parking is banned on 80 Feet Road and Someshwara Temple Road in this zone, with alternatives at BBMP grounds and 60 Feet Model Road. Cab and auto pick-up points are set at UCO Bank Service Road and NGV Backgate.
Similar parking restrictions will be enforced near major malls like Mall of Asia and Orion Mall, on roads such as Dr Rajkumar Road and West of Chord Road. In Indiranagar, restrictions apply on 100 Feet Road, 12th Main Road, and ITPL Main Road.
Enhanced Enforcement and Safety Measures
The police are pulling out all stops to ensure safety. 166 points across the city are identified for a special drive against drunk driving, with 92 locations monitored to prevent stunts and rash driving. Ten drones, 249 Cobra vehicles, and 400 traffic wardens will be deployed.
To regulate traffic flow and prevent speeding, fifty flyovers will be closed during night hours. Specifically, from 11 pm on December 31 to 6 am on January 1, all vehicles are prohibited on all city overbridges, except the one leading to Kempegowda International Airport. Two-wheeler movement on the airport flyover is banned from 10 pm.
Commissioner Singh warned that strict action will be taken against drunk driving, wheeling, stunt riding, and drag racing. Revellers were reminded to ensure their drivers are sober. Heavy goods vehicle movement in the central business district will be diverted from key junctions from 8 pm on the 31st to 6 am on the 1st.
