A chilling case of domestic violence has shaken Bengaluru, where a 40-year-old software engineer is accused of murdering his bank manager wife in a cold-blooded, premeditated attack. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in the city's west, unveiling a tale of prolonged marital discord and alleged abuse.
A Calculated Crime in Rajajinagar
The police reported that the accused, identified as Balamurugan, meticulously planned the murder of his wife, Bhuvaneshwari, over several months. The execution took place at around 6:30 pm near 1st Main Road in the Rajajinagar industrial area. Investigators stated that Balamurugan had illegally acquired a pistol months in advance and carried a knife as a backup, determined not to "miss the opportunity" to kill her.
According to the Times of India report, Bhuvaneshwari was shot at point-blank range. Balamurugan allegedly fired five shots, with police recovering four spent cartridges from the scene. After the shooting, he calmly walked into a police station, surrendered, and handed over both the firearm and the knife. He reportedly told the police that his wife "deserved it."
No Remorse and a Troubled Marriage
During questioning, officers noted that Balamurugan appeared composed and detached, showing no signs of remorse. He insisted he felt no guilt for his actions. A court subsequently ordered that he be placed in police custody for 14 days.
Investigations into the couple's background revealed a marriage in 2011 that had turned sour. Police stated that marital problems emerged a few years later, with Balamurugan growing suspicious of his wife's loyalty and repeatedly accusing her of interacting with other men. Family members shared that tensions escalated after they had children, and all reconciliation attempts failed.
Relatives further alleged that Bhuvaneshwari endured long-term abuse and that Balamurugan also physically assaulted their children. The couple's eight-year-old son corroborated this, telling local media that his father frequently argued with his mother and beat both him and his younger sister.
Ongoing Investigation and Aftermath
Following the crime, Balamurugan was taken back to the scene for a spot assessment on Tuesday night. During the mahazar, he detailed the sequence of events, stating he was convinced she had died before he left for the police station as planned. A post-mortem later confirmed Bhuvaneshwari succumbed to multiple bullet injuries.
Bhuvaneshwari is survived by her parents, two brothers, and her two children—a son in Class 8 and a daughter in UKG. The police are now probing how the accused obtained the illegal firearm, investigating whether it was brought from outside Karnataka and if others were involved in supplying the weapon.
This tragic incident highlights the extreme consequences of unresolved domestic conflict and alleged abuse, leaving a family shattered and a community in search of answers.
