Ahmedabad Police Register Abetment to Suicide Case Against Hotel Employee
In a tragic incident, the Bodakdev police in Ahmedabad have registered a case of abetment to suicide against a hotel employee following the alleged suicide of a 30-year-old woman in her rented accommodation. The distressing event unfolded on Friday in Ambikanagar, Thaltej, prompting swift legal action by the authorities.
Details of the Incident and Victim
The deceased has been identified as Sonamoni Bairagya, a married woman with a young daughter, who was employed at a hotel near Rajpath Club. According to police reports, Bairagya allegedly took her own life by hanging herself from a ventilation window using a dupatta. The incident came to light when her family received a phone call informing them of the suicide.
Her brother, Biswajit Karmakar, who works in Gandhidham, rushed to Ahmedabad along with another sibling. They reached the Civil Hospital, where an autopsy was conducted to determine the cause of death. Karmakar subsequently filed a formal complaint against his sister's co-worker, Asadali Sheikh, accusing him of abetment to suicide.
Allegations and Police Investigation
In his complaint, Karmakar alleged that Sheikh had been harassing Bairagya, a claim he says he discovered after reviewing her WhatsApp chats. The police have registered the case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with abetment to suicide. Authorities have stated that the investigation will heavily rely on digital evidence, including chat records, as well as witness statements and other pertinent materials.
However, the victim's family members residing in West Bengal have expressed skepticism, refusing to believe the suicide narrative and calling for a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding her death.
