Agra Teen Brutally Murdered Over Relationship, Three Arrested for Honor Killing
In a shocking incident in Agra, a 16-year-old boy was mercilessly thrashed, tied upside down, and thrown into a well while semi-conscious, leading to his death. The brutal murder stemmed from his relationship with a girl of his age over the past few months, which was strongly opposed by her family.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Three accused were arrested on Monday evening, and they confessed to the crime, according to police officials. The victim, identified as Chandraveer Singh, was a Class 11 student who was preparing for the Agniveer recruitment and was in a relationship with the sister of his friend, Abhishek Singh.
In the FIR, complainant Devendra Singh stated that his son, Chandraveer, was killed by Abhishek and his family members. SHO Kirawali, Satyaveer Singh, provided details of the premeditated attack.
"When repeated attempts to stop Chandraveer failed, Abhishek's father, Vijay Singh, and his uncle, Rajkumar, planned to kill the boy. They asked Abhishek, cousin Ramu, and kin Umesh to first befriend Chandraveer," the SHO explained.
Execution of the Crime
The SHO added that after gaining Chandraveer's trust, Abhishek took him to a nearby well in a forested area on the evening of March 20. There, Ramu and Umesh joined in, and together they carried out the horrific act.
"They threw him into the well," the police official stated, describing the final moments of the attack that resulted in the teen's death.
Legal Actions and Motive
Police confirmed that Abhishek, Vijay, and Ramu have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend Rajkumar and Umesh. ACP Shailendra Kumar Singh noted the active pursuit of the remaining suspects.
An FIR was registered under sections 103(1) for murder and 61(2) for criminal conspiracy of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During questioning, Abhishek revealed that Chandraveer was murdered because "they wanted to protect their sister's honour," highlighting the motive as an honor killing.
Background of the Victim
Chandraveer Singh was not only a student but also an aspiring Agniveer, showing promise in his academic and career pursuits. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about such extreme reactions to relationships among youth.
The case underscores ongoing issues with honor-based violence in certain regions, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and awareness campaigns to prevent similar tragedies.
