In a dramatic early morning operation, Agra police arrested three men following an encounter in the Jagdishpura area on Monday. The suspects were linked to a brazen jewelry robbery valued at approximately Rs 8 lakh, with one of the accused sustaining a bullet injury during the exchange of fire.

Details of the Robbery and Police Investigation

The incident traces back to March 17, when the accused, riding a motorcycle, snatched gold ornaments from a goldsmith as he was returning home from his shop in the Bichpuri area. The swift and audacious crime prompted an intensive investigation by the Jagdishpura police station.

Police teams meticulously scanned footage from over 100 CCTV cameras to identify the suspects, demonstrating a robust use of technology in modern law enforcement. This thorough surveillance effort was crucial in tracking down the perpetrators.

The Encounter and Arrests

DCP (City) Sayed Ali Abbas provided details of the encounter, stating that police intercepted three bike-borne suspects near the Pathauli canal during a routine checking drive. "When asked to stop, the suspects tried to flee and opened fire at the police team. In retaliatory firing, one accused, Rohit Goswami, suffered a bullet injury in his left leg," Abbas explained.

The two other accused, identified as Ankit Bhagaur and Prince, were apprehended at the scene. Police recovered significant evidence, including:

  • A .315 bore country-made pistol
  • Live and empty cartridges
  • The motorcycle used in the crime
  • Looted gold ornaments
  • Mobile phones and other incriminating items

Authorities revealed that the accused had conducted a recce before executing the robbery, indicating a premeditated plan.

Legal Proceedings and Charges

An FIR was initially registered at the Jagdishpuri police station under BNS sections 304(2) for snatching and 317 for dishonestly receiving, retaining, or concealing stolen property, among other relevant provisions. Following the encounter, a fresh FIR was filed against the accused under BNS Section 109(1) for attempt to murder and the Arms Act for firing at police personnel.

Further legal proceedings are currently underway, with the police ensuring all due processes are followed to bring the accused to justice.
