Patna: 13-Year-Old Cousin Allegedly Rapes 7-Year-Old Girl, Juvenile Detained Under BNS and POCSO Act
In a shocking incident in Patna district, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 13-year-old cousin on Tuesday evening. The minor accused has been detained by police, and a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, according to official statements.
Details of the Alleged Crime
The incident occurred around 4 PM in a village within Patna district. Police reports indicate that the girl was alone at home after her mother had gone to the market. Taking advantage of this situation, the accused, who lives in the neighbourhood, allegedly entered the house, committed the offence, and then fled to his grandmother’s house, located approximately 8 kilometers from the crime scene.
The girl was later found unconscious by family members, who promptly lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the local police station late that night. Following the complaint, police acted swiftly, detaining the juvenile from his grandmother’s house on the same night.
Police Investigation and Medical Response
Given the seriousness of the case, a forensic science laboratory (FSL) team was dispatched to inspect the crime spot. They collected crucial evidence, including the victim’s clothing, to aid in the investigation. Superintendent of Police (West), Patna, Bhanu Pratap Singh, stated, “As soon as police received information about the rape incident, a team rushed to the spot and conducted an investigation in accordance with standard operating procedures.”
The young victim was immediately sent to a hospital for a medical examination. Authorities have confirmed that she is now out of danger and receiving necessary care. The police are continuing their probe to ensure all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined under the stringent laws in place for such offences.
Legal Framework and Community Impact
This case highlights the critical importance of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act in addressing crimes against minors. The swift detention of the accused underscores the police’s commitment to enforcing these laws and protecting vulnerable children. Community members have expressed deep concern over the incident, calling for increased vigilance and support systems to prevent such tragedies in the future.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are emphasizing the need for awareness and preventive measures to safeguard children from sexual violence. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges in combating juvenile crime and the ongoing efforts required to ensure justice and safety for all minors.
