Railways Enforce QR Code ID Cards for Catering Vendors in Ludhiana
In a decisive move to enhance passenger safety and combat unauthorised vending, the Railways has implemented a new requirement for catering vendors in Ludhiana. The Ferozepur Division has mandated that all authorised catering vendors must now carry QR code-equipped ID cards, a step aimed at ensuring the delivery of hygienic and high-quality food to travellers.
Enhanced Verification for Passenger Trust
Railway passengers will now have the ability to instantly verify a vendor's identity and authenticity by simply scanning the QR code with their mobile phones. This initiative fosters transparency and builds trust, as scanning the code reveals crucial details such as the vendor's name, address, stall number, and verification status. By providing this real-time access to information, the Railways aims to empower passengers to make informed choices about their food purchases.
QR Codes on Food Packets for Quality Assurance
Beyond vendor identification, QR codes are also being printed directly on food packets. This additional measure allows passengers to access information regarding the quality and hygiene of the meals they purchase. The system is designed to effectively prevent unauthorised vendors from operating at railway stations and is expected to significantly reduce catering-related complaints that have plagued the department in the past.
Addressing Past Complaints and Ensuring Safety
The Railways had been receiving numerous complaints about unauthorised vendors selling unhygienic food at the Ludhiana railway station. In some instances, these illegal vendors were apprehended by the concerned authorities. This new initiative represents a proactive response to these issues, ensuring that only authorised vendors are permitted to sell eatables to passengers.
Paramdeep Singh Saini, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, emphasised that this measure is a vital step towards guaranteeing the safety, convenience, and superior service experience for all railway passengers. By integrating technology into vendor management, the Railways is setting a new standard for accountability and consumer protection in the catering sector.
