In a significant development for Pune's urban infrastructure, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Maha Metro have officially commenced joint inspections along the entire Vanaz–Chandni Chowk Metro extension route. This collaborative exercise aims to meticulously review the alignment of the Metro viaduct, pinpoint the exact locations of stations, finalize entry-exit points, and scrutinize the design of a proposed double-decker flyover at the Kothrud depot.

Detailed Review to Ensure Seamless Execution

Officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation have confirmed that a series of inspections are scheduled to take place over the next few days. The primary objective of this comprehensive review is to bring absolute clarity to the project's execution plan and proactively prevent any potential disruptions during the construction phase. By addressing logistical and design details upfront, authorities hope to streamline the implementation process and minimize public inconvenience.

Maha Metro has already initiated the formal process of appointing a specialized agency to carry out the construction work. The proposed extension, spanning a distance of 1.4 kilometers, will include two strategically located stations: one at the Kothrud depot and the other at the bustling Chandni Chowk intersection. Although this stretch is relatively short, local sources from the Kothrud depot area emphasize its critical importance, as it will provide direct and efficient connectivity to Chandni Chowk, a major entry point to the city.

Infrastructure and Traffic Management Priorities

The Pune Municipal Corporation has issued specific directives to Maha Metro, emphasizing the need to maintain adequate space for footpaths and road carriageways, given the exceptionally heavy traffic flow along this corridor. Officials have also requested detailed plans regarding the placement of barricades at crucial points during construction to ensure safety and traffic management. "We have asked Maha Metro to clearly mark the entry and exit points of the stations and provide a probable timeline for the work," stated a senior civic official involved in the project.

According to preliminary plans, the proposed double-decker flyover at the Kothrud depot will be constructed simultaneously with the Metro viaduct. While this flyover is intended for vehicular movement to alleviate traffic congestion along this busy stretch, it will be built under the supervision of Maha Metro. This integrated approach aims to optimize construction efficiency and reduce overall project duration.

Enhanced Connectivity for Commuters

In a parallel development, a pedestrian overbridge has been proposed at the Chandni Chowk Metro station. This facility is designed to connect the station directly with the Katraj–Dehu Road bypass, significantly improving accessibility for daily commuters. The overbridge is expected to facilitate easier and safer access to the bypass, enhancing the overall utility of the Metro extension.

Local residents have expressed their expectations, urging authorities to ensure convenient access to both the Metro station and the bypass. "We expect a bridge that will provide easy access to commuters on both sides of the Katraj–Dehu Road bypass," commented a resident from the area, highlighting the community's focus on practical and user-friendly infrastructure.
