Phaphamau Bridge in Prayagraj Set for June Completion with Cutting-Edge Infrastructure
Construction of the six-lane bridge over the Ganga River at Phaphamau in Prayagraj is progressing rapidly, with officials targeting completion by June 2024. A significant milestone involves the ongoing development of a state-of-the-art toll plaza on the Malak Harhar side, marking a major advancement in Uttar Pradesh's transportation network.
Advanced Command Centre and Toll Plaza Details
Authorities have initiated the construction of an advanced command centre, expected to be operational within four months, to monitor the entire 9.9-kilometer stretch between Malak Harhar and Stanley Road. This centre will be housed in a three-storey building adjacent to the toll plaza.
The bridge will feature Uttar Pradesh's first 14-lane toll plaza, with seven lanes dedicated to incoming traffic and seven for outgoing traffic. The plaza will extend over a length of 700 meters, designed to handle high volumes efficiently.
High-Tech Traffic Management Systems
The infrastructure will be equipped with several innovative systems to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow:
- Automatic Traffic Management System: This system is designed to provide swift responses in case of accidents, with cranes deployable within minutes to clear obstructions and restore normal traffic conditions.
- Video Incident Detection System: CCTV cameras will be installed at five strategic points along the bridge to monitor activities and detect incidents in real-time.
- LED Gantries: Positioned at both ends of the bridge, these will display real-time messages and alerts from the command centre to commuters.
- Meteorological System: This will monitor fog visibility and wind speed, issuing timely alerts to enhance driver safety during adverse weather conditions.
Project Progress and Official Statements
Project director Mohamad Nusratullah Khan from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated that work on the extra-dosed piers is expected to be completed by the end of May 2024. "Presently, the work for the last pier is nearing completion," he said. Following this, full-scale monitoring operations will be activated from the command centre.
The command centre will also ensure round-the-clock availability of crane and medical assistance, further bolstering emergency response capabilities.
Strategic Benefits and Technological Advantages
The bridge, starting from Beli Hospital, will connect key cities such as Lucknow, Pratapgrah, Sultanpur, and Ayodhya with Prayagraj. Its completion is anticipated to deliver multiple benefits:
- Traffic Diversion: Heavy vehicles will be redirected away from city roads, significantly reducing congestion in the Phaphamau area.
- Travel Time Reduction: Intercity commuters will experience substantially shorter travel times, improving overall connectivity.
- Enhanced Durability: The use of extra-dosed technology ensures higher load-bearing capacity and long-term durability, making this bridge a critical infrastructure upgrade for the region.
This project represents a significant step forward in modernizing Uttar Pradesh's transport infrastructure, combining advanced technology with strategic planning to meet growing demands.
