PCMC Issues Final Warning to 2.06 Lakh Property Tax Defaulters as Collection Hits Record High
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has issued a final warning to 2.06 lakh property tax defaulters as tax collection reaches unprecedented levels this financial year. With 5,26,226 out of 7,32,302 registered property owners having already cleared their dues, the civic administration is intensifying efforts to recover outstanding payments.
Extended Payment Facilities for Citizen Convenience
Pimpri Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge has announced that all 18 regional tax collection offices in the city will remain open on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays to facilitate tax payments. This measure aims to provide maximum convenience to citizens who need to settle their property tax obligations.
"Paying on time will help avoid late penalties as well as property seizure or other legal actions," Mayor Landge emphasized. "For the convenience of citizens, we have kept tax offices open during weekends and holidays."
Breakdown of Tax Payment Statistics
According to Sachin Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of the Tax Assessment and Collection Department, the current payment status reveals:
- Total registered properties: 7,32,302
- Properties with paid taxes: 5,26,226
- Properties with outstanding dues: 2,06,076
The administration reported that many residents took advantage of concessions offered during the first and second quarters, leading to a significant increase in timely tax payments. These discounts have contributed substantially to the record collection figures.
Preferred Payment Methods Among Taxpayers
Property owners have shown a clear preference for digital payment methods, with online transactions leading the way:
- Online Payments: 430,279 taxpayers
- Cash Payments: 56,450 property owners
- Cheque Payments: 12,511 individuals
- BBPS Facility: 26,881 property owners
- E-DCS Facility: 105 property owners
"There has been a particularly strong response to online payments, making the process simpler, faster, and more transparent," the administration noted in its official statement.
Urgent Appeal to Defaulters
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Pawar has made an urgent appeal to property owners who haven't paid their taxes to settle both current year dues and any outstanding arrears immediately. The administration warned that failure to comply could result in late fees and legal action as per the rules of the Tax Assessment and Collection Department.
The PCMC administration highlighted that property owners are making payments in large numbers through various convenient methods provided by the Corporation, including online portals, cash counters, cheque acceptance, and electronic payment systems.
With tax collection at record levels and a significant portion of property owners already compliant, the municipal corporation is now focusing its attention on the remaining 2.06 lakh defaulters. The extended office hours and multiple payment options are designed to make it as easy as possible for citizens to fulfill their civic responsibilities before enforcement measures become necessary.
