Patna DM Directs Comprehensive Upgrade of Patliputra Bus Terminal
In a significant move to enhance urban transport infrastructure, District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M has issued a series of directives aimed at improving passenger facilities and addressing traffic issues at the Patliputra Bus Terminal in Patna. During an executive committee meeting held on Saturday, the DM emphasized the urgent need for upgrades to ensure smoother operations and better services for commuters.
Immediate Actions to Clear Encroachments and Abandoned Vehicles
Thiyagarajan S M ordered the immediate removal of all encroachments between the terminal and Zero Mile, a critical step to alleviate traffic bottlenecks. Additionally, he instructed the district transport officer to clear 28 abandoned vehicles from the bus terminal premises within a week, citing safety and aesthetic concerns. These measures are expected to significantly improve the flow of traffic and reduce congestion in the area.
Formation of Multi-Departmental Team for Infrastructure Coordination
To tackle broader infrastructure challenges, the DM has established a multi-departmental team led by the SP (traffic). This team is tasked with inspecting nearby roads and coordinating with key agencies such as Patna Metro, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and the road construction department. The primary goal is to prevent the dumping of construction debris, which has been a persistent issue affecting road conditions and passenger safety.
Land Acquisition and Development of New Facilities
In a bid to expand the terminal's capabilities, Thiyagarajan S M directed the district land acquisition officer to complete the acquisition of an additional five acres of land. This land will be used for the development of new infrastructure, potentially including expanded parking areas and modern passenger amenities. The secretary of the terminal committee has been assigned to invite banks and vendors to install ATMs, hotels, and restaurants on the campus, aiming to enhance convenience for travelers.
Enhancing Passenger Information and Security Measures
The DM stressed the importance of clear communication and security at the terminal. He mandated that sufficient display boards and inquiry counters be maintained, with a passenger fare list displayed at prominent points. Furthermore, a task force led by the sub-divisional officer has been formed to penalize unauthorized bus operators and those involved in illegal parking at Masaurhi Mor and Zero Mile. A management sub-committee will meet twice every month to review passenger facilities and the surveillance system, ensuring ongoing improvements.
Addressing Pending Projects and Maintenance Issues
Thiyagarajan S M also announced plans to reach out to Buidco and NHAI to expedite pending construction and drainage projects near Bairiya and Pahadi. He directed the outsourcing agency and Patna Municipal Corporation to monitor cleaning, fogging, and waste disposal activities closely. Additional instructions were given to the secretary to enhance security through the installation of CCTV cameras and to ensure the task force keeps a check on unwanted elements in the vicinity, promoting a safer environment for all users.
These comprehensive directives reflect a proactive approach to urban management in Patna, with a focus on improving public transport infrastructure and passenger experience. The initiatives are expected to be implemented in phases, with regular reviews to track progress and address any emerging challenges.
