Noida's Major Infrastructure Push: 31.2km Elevated Corridor to Alleviate Airport-Bound Traffic
In a significant move to address anticipated traffic congestion, the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and irrigation department teams conducted a crucial inspection on Tuesday. The focus was on the Yamuna Pushta road, assessing the feasibility and alignment for a proposed elevated corridor designed to serve as a vital alternative route.
Urgent Need Driven by Airport Operations
The impetus for this ambitious project stems from the imminent operationalization of the Noida International Airport, scheduled to commence later this month. Officials project a sharp and substantial increase in traffic on the existing expressways once the airport becomes fully functional, necessitating proactive infrastructure enhancements to maintain smooth connectivity.
Comprehensive Project Details Unveiled
The proposed infrastructure is a 31.2-kilometer six-lane elevated road, strategically planned to stretch from the Okhla Barrage near Sector 94 all the way to the Yamuna Expressway in close proximity to Gharbara village, which lies opposite Gautam Buddha University. This corridor is envisioned to run meticulously along the Yamuna embankment, effectively linking numerous central Noida sectors before its eventual merger with the Yamuna Expressway after crossing the Hindon River.
To optimize accessibility, the plan incorporates three proposed loops that will significantly improve entry and exit points for the adjoining residential and commercial sectors, ensuring seamless integration with local road networks.
Extensive Sector Coverage and Connectivity Benefits
The elevated corridor's route is designed to pass through a wide array of sectors, including:
- Sector 95
- Sector 125
- Sector 126
- Sector 127
- Sector 128
- Sector 129
- Sector 130
- Sector 131
- Sector 132
- Sector 133
- Sector 134
- Sector 135
These areas are notable for housing a dense concentration of offices, educational institutions, and residential complexes, making enhanced connectivity a critical priority for daily commuters and economic activity.
Official Confirmation and Strategic Importance
Noida Authority CEO Krishna Karunesh officially confirmed the inspection activities, stating, "The road will improve connectivity for commuters travelling from Noida towards Greater Noida and Jewar." This statement underscores the corridor's role in not only serving airport traffic but also bolstering regional connectivity between key urban centers in the National Capital Region.
Next Steps and Implementation Timeline
The project now moves into a detailed assessment phase. A three-member technical team from Almondz Global Infra, the consultant appointed by UPEIDA, will undertake a comprehensive evaluation. Their mandate includes:
- Assessing the technical viability of the proposed alignment.
- Evaluating the precise route alignment for optimal efficiency.
- Examining potential environmental considerations and impacts.
Following the submission of the consultant's report, the Authority is committed to drafting a detailed project report within a three-month timeframe. Construction is estimated to span approximately two years, with the project costs being collaboratively shared by the Noida Authority, Greater Noida Authority, and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, ensuring a coordinated and funded approach to this critical infrastructure development.
