Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw Says Nitin Gadkari Promised to Fix Hosur Road by Month End
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw: Gadkari Promises Hosur Road Fix by Month End

Bengaluru: Biocon chairperson and entrepreneur Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw on Thursday stated that Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has assured her that Hosur Road in Hebbagodi will be restored to good condition by the end of this month.

Earlier this month, Shaw had posted on X criticizing the condition of Hosur Road (NH-44), describing it as poorly designed and badly maintained. She also highlighted the lack of response to repeated complaints. In reply, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said the stretch, completed in 2010, now carries heavy traffic due to rapid urban growth.

Following her post, Shaw met Gadkari last week. He was very helpful, she said. He expressed that he was very upset that the national highway was in such bad shape and promised to improve it. Shaw made these remarks on the sidelines of the STAMP: Nudging Commuter Behaviour event in Bengaluru. She also drew attention to daily traffic congestion near the Biocon Hebbagodi Metro station.

Biocon Staff Shift to Public Transport

More than 1,000 employees of Biocon have switched from private vehicles to public modes of commute as part of a corporate mobility programme aimed at reducing traffic congestion and vehicular emissions in Bengaluru. The initiative, called STAMP: Nudging Commuter Behaviour, has been developed by WRI India in collaboration with the Toyota Mobility Foundation.

A dedicated app enables employees to plan, track, and pay for their journeys across metro, bus, and feeder services. It integrates real-time information, ticketing, and multimodal connectivity, while also offering features tailored to Biocon's organisational needs.

By aligning corporate policy with city infrastructure, we are tackling congestion at its source, said Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority. I urge all corporate citizens to adopt this institutional approach and help us move Bengaluru toward a less congested, more livable future.
