Haryana Power Department Implements Strict Timelines for Transformer Replacement to Combat Summer Disruptions
In a decisive move to minimize power disruptions during the scorching summer months, the Haryana power department has issued stringent directives to distribution companies (discoms). The new mandate requires discoms to replace faulty transformers within a maximum of two hours in urban areas and four hours in rural regions. This initiative is specifically designed to accelerate the restoration of electricity supply following faults or breakdowns, addressing a critical issue that has long plagued consumers.
Current Challenges and New Protocols
Presently, the replacement of transformers often extends over several hours, with rural areas sometimes experiencing delays lasting days, leading to prolonged and inconvenient outages. To combat this, discoms have been instructed to maintain robust transformer banks and ensure mobile trolleys are readily available in every subdivision. Additionally, they are now required to submit daily power supply data directly to the minister's office for continuous monitoring and accountability.
Earlier this month, Power Minister Anil Vij announced that superintending engineers would be held personally accountable if outages exceed two continuous hours in cities or four hours in villages. This accountability measure underscores the government's commitment to reliable power delivery.
Comprehensive Measures for Enhanced Reliability
Minister Vij has also directed officials to prioritize the timely pruning of trees surrounding 11 kV and 33 kV feeders. This proactive step aims to prevent disruptions caused by falling branches during rains and storms, which are common in the summer season. Furthermore, instructions have been issued to ensure adequate transportation resources for transformers, thereby avoiding any inconvenience to farmers and other consumers.
"The state's power utilities are fully committed to ensuring uninterrupted and quality power supply to consumers," stated Vij during a recent review meeting. He emphasized that officials must work diligently to prevent unnecessary power supply interruptions throughout the summer.
Financial Recovery and Anti-Theft Initiatives
In a parallel effort to strengthen the power sector's financial health, Vij revealed that under the Land Recovery Act, notices will be issued within 15 days to consumers whose electricity connections have been permanently disconnected, targeting the recovery of pending dues. Special campaigns are being launched to recover the total outstanding amount of Rs 8,200 crore across the state.
To curb electricity theft, strict action is being enforced. Consumers found involved in such cases will be given one final opportunity to clear their dues through fresh notices, balancing enforcement with a chance for compliance.
Solar Power Expansion Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana
Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, efforts will be accelerated to achieve the target of providing solar power to 2.2 lakh households by March 2027. Monthly targets will be established for officials to ensure the timely and effective implementation of this renewable energy initiative, contributing to sustainable power solutions.
These comprehensive measures reflect Haryana's proactive approach to enhancing power infrastructure, ensuring reliability during peak demand, and fostering a more efficient and accountable power distribution system for all residents.
