GBA Officially Announces New Towing Charges for Bengaluru
In a significant move to streamline traffic management, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has officially finalized new towing charges for vehicles parked incorrectly in the city. Under the newly approved system, the fee for towing two-wheelers has been set at Rs 650, while cars will incur a charge of Rs 1,000. This decision aims to enhance enforcement and reduce congestion caused by illegal parking.
New Responsibilities for Corporations and Traffic Police
The implementation of these charges involves a clear division of duties between local corporations and law enforcement. Specifically, the responsibility for providing and maintaining 'towing vehicles' has been entrusted to five corporations operating within Bengaluru. These corporations will ensure that adequate towing infrastructure is available across key areas of the city.
Meanwhile, the traffic police will utilize these towing vehicles to actively remove wrongly parked vehicles from roads and public spaces. In addition to towing, the police will be authorized to collect fines directly from violators, integrating penalty collection with the towing process to improve efficiency and deterrence.
Impact on Traffic Management and Public Compliance
This structured approach is expected to significantly boost traffic flow and safety in Bengaluru, a city often plagued by parking-related issues. By standardizing charges and clarifying roles, the GBA hopes to encourage better parking habits among residents and visitors. The move also aligns with broader urban governance goals to modernize infrastructure and enforce regulations more effectively.
As these changes take effect, authorities anticipate a reduction in illegal parking incidents, contributing to smoother transportation networks and enhanced public order in the metropolitan area.
