DHBVN Establishes 24x7 Control Room to Ensure Uninterrupted Power During Summer
In a significant move to address the escalating power challenges during the peak summer season, the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) is setting up a round-the-clock central control room at its headquarters. This initiative aims to guarantee an uninterrupted electricity supply and facilitate quicker resolution of breakdowns across the region.
Real-Time Monitoring and Enhanced Oversight
The newly established facility will be equipped to monitor real-time electricity supply, meticulously track tripping incidents, and identify feeder-level outages. It will also maintain comprehensive records of all power cuts and restoration efforts, ensuring transparency and accountability in operations.
Managing Director Vikram Singh issued detailed guidelines on Thursday for the effective monitoring and control of power supply, particularly in anticipation of the summer season and potential heatwaves. To oversee the entire system, the Superintending Engineer of System Operation in Hisar has been appointed as the nodal officer.
Spokesperson Sanjay Chugh emphasized the control room's critical role, stating, "This control room will monitor supply status, tripping, and breakdowns at the feeder level and will maintain a complete record of outages and restoration."
Addressing Gurgaon's Growing Power Demands
As temperatures continue to soar, outages and supply disruptions have become increasingly common. Despite DHBVN's claims of no power shortage, residents frequently experience prolonged outages, especially during summer. In Gurgaon, these outages can last for several hours, with newer sectors facing more severe issues due to inadequate power infrastructure.
Currently, Gurgaon's peak power consumption stands at 3,300 MW, with demand growing at an annual rate of 6–7%, according to a discom official. To tackle this, DHBVN will implement a special focus on feeders this summer. The directive includes identifying poorly performing feeders monthly, such as 11 kV feeders with 20 or more breakdowns and 33 kV feeders with 5 or more breakdowns, which will undergo rigorous review.
Priority Services and Advanced Preparedness
During supply shortages, priority will be given to essential services. Directives have been issued to ensure top priority for hospitals, water supply schemes, and other critical infrastructure. Additionally, advanced maintenance of sensitive feeders, transformers, and substations has been secured to prevent failures.
To manage peak demand, dynamic load management will be implemented, with load shedding carried out as per regulatory guidelines if necessary. DHBVN has also mandated adequate stock maintenance and the deployment of rapid response teams to handle emergencies swiftly.
Proactive Communication and Grievance Redressal
In an effort to enhance consumer experience, the system will be developed to provide advance information about outages. Chugh added, "The directions were issued to provide advance information about power cuts to consumers through SMS, WhatsApp, and social media. Additionally, emphasis has been placed on swift grievance redressal by deploying officials in the control room."
This comprehensive approach by DHBVN underscores its commitment to improving power reliability and customer service during the challenging summer months, aiming to mitigate the impact of outages on Gurgaon's residents and essential services.
