Hazaribag's Birhor Community Gains Access to Clean Drinking Water Through CSR Initiative
In a significant development for tribal welfare, around 150 residents of the Birhor community in Jamunia Tari Birhor Tola, located within Chouparan block of Hazaribag district, finally received access to clean drinking water on Wednesday. This milestone was achieved after the district administration successfully installed a water purifier in the village, addressing a long-standing public health concern.
Addressing a Critical Need Through Corporate Social Responsibility
Officials confirmed that the water purifier was purchased and installed utilizing corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. The initiative came to fruition after local villagers highlighted the acute shortage of clean drinking water to Deputy Commissioner Shashi Prakash Singh during his recent visit to the area. The Birhor community is officially classified as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), underscoring the importance of this intervention.
Jaggu Yadav, a government school teacher residing in the vicinity, expressed his support for the project. "Approximately 150 PVTG people inhabit this hamlet and rely on the forest for their livelihood. They typically use water from a well, which can pose serious health risks if it becomes contaminated. Therefore, the installation of a water purifier represents a positive step toward safeguarding their health and well-being," Yadav stated.
Additional Welfare Measures for the Community
In a parallel welfare effort, Deputy Commissioner Shashi Prakash Singh also distributed hearing aids to 160 students at St Michael School for the Hearing Impaired in Dipugarha. During his visit to the institution, Singh interacted with the children and conducted a thorough inspection of the facilities. Furthermore, he approved a proposal to establish a smart classroom at the school, aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for the students.
These combined initiatives reflect the district administration's commitment to improving the quality of life for vulnerable populations in Hazaribag. By leveraging CSR funds and engaging directly with community needs, the administration has taken concrete steps to address both immediate health concerns and long-term educational development.
