Bihar Government Implements Robust Urban Management Reforms
In a significant move to bolster municipal finances and improve urban governance, Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development and Housing Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha detailed the state government's proactive measures on Wednesday. The initiatives focus on enhancing revenue streams through systematic parking and hoarding regulations across Bihar's urban local bodies.
Systematic Parking Management Yields Substantial Revenue
Sinha emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to establishing a transparent, accountable, and modern urban administration. He revealed that comprehensive parking management systems have been successfully rolled out in all 19 municipal corporations, 89 municipal councils, and 156 nagar panchayats throughout the state.
This strategic implementation has led to an impressive collection of more than Rs87 crore in parking revenue, marking a pivotal achievement for municipal bodies. Additionally, investments exceeding Rs92 crore have been allocated to ensure the parking infrastructure remains efficient and well-organized, facilitating smoother traffic flow and better public convenience.
Strict Enforcement Against Violators
The deputy CM underscored the importance of strict enforcement to maintain order. A dedicated campaign targeting illegal parking has resulted in notices being issued in 59 cases, with Sinha affirming that firm action against rule violators will continue unabated. This approach aims to guarantee seamless traffic movement and enhanced accessibility for citizens.
Action on Unauthorised Hoardings Boosts Revenue and Aesthetics
Simultaneously, widespread measures have been taken against unauthorised hoardings. Penalties totaling over Rs20 lakh have been recovered across 12 municipal corporations, 46 municipal councils, and 68 nagar panchayats. Furthermore, arrangements worth approximately Rs44 lakh have been finalized to establish transparent and systematic hoarding management frameworks.
Sinha highlighted that these efforts have not only beautified urban landscapes but also significantly increased revenue for municipal institutions. He described these accomplishments as a crucial milestone that provides new direction for the financial strengthening of urban bodies, advancing the vision of self-reliant municipal institutions.
Commitment to Clean, Safe, and Citizen-Friendly Cities
Reiterating the department's dedication, Sinha stressed ongoing work to make cities clean, safe, well-managed, and citizen-friendly. He instructed officers to maintain continuous vigilance over illegal activities and ensure strict compliance with regulations, thereby enabling residents to benefit from improved urban services.
This holistic approach underscores Bihar's commitment to sustainable urban development, leveraging regulatory reforms to drive both fiscal health and quality of life enhancements in its municipalities.
