Bidar Railway Station Modernization Nears Completion Under Amrit Bharat Scheme
Passengers using Bidar railway station have reason to celebrate as the extensive modernization project is on track to deliver a host of new facilities starting in April. The transformation, undertaken under the central government's Amrit Bharat Station scheme, represents a significant upgrade to the station's infrastructure and passenger amenities.
Substantial Investment in Modern Infrastructure
The ambitious modernization initiative carries a sanctioned budget of Rs 24.3 crore, though project costs have been revised upward. Originally, a grant of Rs 25 crore was approved and released for the Bidar railway station improvements. However, the Secunderabad Railway Division subsequently decided to increase the project scope and revise the total cost to approximately Rs 40 crore. Local representative Sagar Khandre has requested a detailed report from railway officers regarding this revised cost structure.
Comprehensive Facility Upgrades Approaching Finish Line
Railway officials report that the majority of construction and installation work is now complete, with only minor finishing tasks remaining. An assistant engineer from the Bidar and Secunderabad Railway division, who requested anonymity, confirmed to TOI that the departure hall renovation stands at 90% completion and is scheduled for finalization by March 31. The renovation of the station's original building has already been finished.
Key completed elements include:
- Installation of escalators on both platforms, fully tested and operational
- Lift installations on Platforms 1 and 2, with Platform 1's lift already complete
- Cover over platform (COP) structures on both platforms
- Platform surfacing work including granite installation, vacuum deuterated polar (VDF) concrete, and PCC works
- Foot overbridge construction on both sides of the gangway with granite laying
- Ramp construction with completed handrail work
- Passenger waiting hall construction, painting, and furnishing
- Extension of Platforms 2 and 3 to 72 meters in length
- Parking area development on both sides of the station
Remaining Work and Final Preparations
While most major components are finished, some additional work continues at a rapid pace. The circulating area for two-wheelers and vehicles remains under construction, and the flooring concrete work for the extended Platforms 2 and 3 is still pending. Railway authorities emphasize that these final tasks are progressing swiftly to meet the April deadline for full facility availability.
The comprehensive modernization represents a significant enhancement to Bidar's railway infrastructure, promising improved accessibility, comfort, and convenience for the thousands of passengers who utilize the station daily. The inclusion of modern amenities like escalators and lifts particularly addresses accessibility concerns, while the expanded platforms and improved waiting areas will enhance overall passenger experience.
