The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a revised timeline for the crucial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in four key regions. This update affects the states of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, along with the union territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
What is the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)?
The Special Intensive Revision is a comprehensive, door-to-door verification drive conducted by the Election Commission. Its primary goals are to ensure the electoral roll is accurate and up-to-date. The exercise focuses on including eligible citizens who are currently missing from the voter list, removing duplicate or ineligible entries, and correcting any errors in existing voter details like name, age, and address. The final electoral rolls, which will use January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date, are slated for publication in February 2026.
Revised Deadlines for Voter List Enumeration
Following requests from the Chief Electoral Officers of the concerned regions, the ECI has pushed back the earlier deadlines. According to the new schedule, which applies uniformly to all four regions, the door-to-door enumeration process will now continue until December 18, 2025. Subsequently, the draft electoral rolls will be made public on December 23, 2025.
This marks a shift from the previously announced dates, where enumeration was to end on December 11 and draft rolls were to be published on December 16. The Commission has taken this step to ensure a more thorough and inclusive revision process.
How to Check Your Name in the Draft Voter List
Once the draft rolls are published on December 23, 2025, every voter must proactively verify their registration. The draft roll is a provisional list, and citizens are urged to check the following:
- Whether their name appears on the list.
- If all personal details (name, age, address, photo) are correctly recorded.
- That eligible family members are also included.
To check your details, you can follow these steps:
- Visit the official ECI voter services portal at https://voters.eci.gov.in/ or the Electoral Search website at https://electoralsearch.eci.gov.in/.
- Search for your entry using your EPIC (Voter ID) number or by entering personal details like name, age, and constituency.
- View your entry in the draft electoral roll PDF.
For those who find errors or need to be newly enrolled, the ECI has provided a window for claims and objections after the draft roll publication. New voters can submit Form 6 either physically to their Booth Level Officer (BLO) or online via the ECINet app or website.
Additional Methods for Verification
Beyond the websites, voters can also use these channels to verify or update their details:
- Download and use the official ECINet mobile application.
- Directly contact your local Booth Level Officer (BLO), Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), or Assistant ERO.
The Election Commission has issued a strong appeal to all citizens to participate in this verification process within the stipulated time. This collective effort is vital to prevent the exclusion of eligible voters and to ensure ineligible names are removed, thereby strengthening the integrity of the electoral process.
