Trump Details US Military Objectives in Middle East, Dismisses Ceasefire Calls with Iran

US President Donald Trump declared on Friday that the United States is approaching the completion of its military objectives in the Middle East, specifically targeting Iran, while unequivocally ruling out any possibility of a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict. In a post on Truth Social, Trump outlined a comprehensive set of goals aimed at countering what he termed the "Terrorist Regime of Iran."

Strategic Goals Outlined by the President

Trump emphasized that the US is "getting very close to meeting our objectives" as it considers scaling back military efforts in the region. He detailed five key objectives in his statement:

  1. Completely degrading Iranian Missile Capability: This includes targeting launchers and all related infrastructure to neutralize Iran's missile threats.
  2. Destroying Iran’s Defense Industrial Base: Aiming to cripple the country's ability to produce military equipment and sustain its armed forces.
  3. Eliminating their Navy and Air Force: Focusing on dismantling Iran's naval and aerial assets, including anti-aircraft weaponry, to reduce its military prowess.
  4. Preventing Nuclear Capability: Ensuring Iran never comes close to developing nuclear weapons, with the US maintaining a readiness to respond swiftly if necessary.
  5. Protecting Middle Eastern Allies: Safeguarding nations such as Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and others at the highest level.

Shift in Responsibility for Strait of Hormuz

In a notable policy shift, Trump indicated that the responsibility for securing the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz should transition away from the United States. He stated, "The Hormuz Strait will have to be guarded and policed, as necessary, by other Nations who use it — The United States does not!" However, he added that the US would provide assistance if required, suggesting a supportive rather than leading role in future maritime security efforts.

Firm Rejection of Ceasefire

Earlier, during a press briefing at the White House alongside Senator Marco Rubio, Trump firmly dismissed calls for a ceasefire. He asserted, "I don't want to do a ceasefire. You know you don't do a ceasefire when you're literally obliterating the other side," and added, "I think we have won." This stance underscores a hardline approach as the conflict intensifies, with the US deploying additional Marines to the Middle East, signaling potential expansion of military options. Despite this, Washington has clarified that it does not currently plan to send ground troops into Iran, focusing instead on aerial and naval operations.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions, with recent reports of military actions in the region, including Israel's strikes on Tehran during Nowruz celebrations and defensive responses from UAE and Kuwait to missile barrages. Trump's statements reflect a strategic pivot as the US aims to wind down its direct military involvement while achieving its security goals through targeted operations and alliance support.
