MP Brijesh Chowta met with Uma Shankar, the Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, to discuss the progress of various national highway projects underway in Dakshina Kannada. During the meeting, Chowta presented a detailed overview of the ongoing works and emphasized the urgent need to adhere to stipulated timelines without further delays.
"I held extensive discussions with Secretary Uma Shankar regarding the swift implementation of multiple national highway projects in Dakshina Kannada district," Chowta stated. "I highlighted the current progress and strongly urged that these projects be completed within their designated timeframes to benefit the local community and economy."
Focus on Key Highway Projects
A major part of the discussion centered on two crucial highway developments: the Shiradi Ghat and the Surathkal–BC Road projects. These initiatives are deemed vital for enhancing district connectivity and facilitating smoother transportation for residents and businesses alike.
Chowta stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of these projects, noting that their timely completion is essential for regional growth and development. The detailed project reports (DPRs) for both highways were reviewed, with a call for expedited action to move from planning to execution phases.
Review of Mani–Sampaje Road Development
In addition to the primary highway projects, MP Chowta also brought attention to the Mani–Sampaje road, which now falls under the jurisdiction of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). He advocated for a thorough review and prioritization of development work on this route to ensure it meets national standards and supports local traffic needs.
The inclusion of this road in the discussion underscores a comprehensive approach to improving the entire highway network in Dakshina Kannada, addressing both major corridors and secondary routes.
Presence of Local MLA
Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja was also present at the meeting, highlighting the collaborative effort between elected representatives to advocate for infrastructure improvements. His attendance signifies unified political support for expediting these projects and addressing the transportation challenges faced by the district.
