Lieutenant General VMB Krishnan Assumes Command of Eastern Command in Kolkata
In a significant military leadership transition, Lieutenant General VMB Krishnan officially took over as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Eastern Command on Wednesday. This appointment follows the retirement of his predecessor, Lieutenant General R C Tiwari, who concluded his distinguished service on Tuesday.
A Distinguished Career Spanning Nearly Four Decades
Commissioned into the Indian Army on June 11, 1988, Lieutenant General Krishnan brings a wealth of experience to his new role, encompassing nearly forty years of operational, staff, and instructional duties. His career trajectory reflects a deep commitment to military excellence and strategic leadership.
An alumnus of several premier military institutions, Lieutenant General Krishnan has held critical command positions throughout his service. He notably commanded an infantry battalion and a brigade in the challenging terrain of the Siachen Glacier, demonstrating leadership under extreme conditions.
Key Roles and Previous Assignments
His career includes serving as the General Officer Commanding of an Infantry Division and the Brahmastra Corps, highlighting his tactical and operational prowess. Beyond field commands, Lieutenant General Krishnan has contributed significantly to administrative and diplomatic fronts.
He served as the Director General of Information Technology at Army Headquarters, where he oversaw technological advancements within the force. Additionally, his tenure as Defence Attaché at the Indian High Commission in London provided valuable international exposure and diplomatic experience.
In his most recent role as the Quarter Master General, Lieutenant General Krishnan spearheaded major reforms in supply chain management and infrastructure development, enhancing logistical efficiency for the Indian Army.
