Odisha Set to Launch Helicopter Tours Under Joy Ride Scheme
The Odisha government is preparing to launch its much-anticipated Joy Ride Scheme, which will introduce helicopter services for tourists seeking aerial views of the state's most iconic destinations. This initiative aims to revolutionize tourism by offering a unique perspective from the sky.
First Phase Targets Chilika Lake and Maa Taratarini Shrine
In the initial phase, the helicopter facility will be available at two prominent locations: the picturesque Chilika Lake and the revered Maa Taratarini shrine in Ganjam district. Independent helicopters will operate from major tourist hubs, providing visitors with an opportunity to witness Odisha's natural beauty and cultural heritage from above.

On Friday, a Pawan Hans helicopter arrived at the Rangeilunda airstrip in Berhampur, where it was inspected by key officials including Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, Ganjam Collector Keerthi Vasan V, and Chhatrapur MLA Krushna Chandra Nayak. Minister Jena confirmed that the service will be launched soon with affordable ticket pricing to ensure accessibility for all.
"The Pawan Hans helicopter arrived today. Our government promised helicopter tours for tourists. Now, visitors can fly to Taratarini, Narayani, and Chilika. Similar services will also begin in Bhubaneswar, Puri, Konark, and Sambalpur. We are ensuring low-cost access so that people can enjoy Odisha's beauty from the sky," said Jena.
Operational Routes and Flight Frequency
According to the district collector, the helicopter will operate from Rangeilunda, covering a scenic route that includes:
- Gopalpur beach

- Maa Taratarini Temple
before returning to the base. Depending on demand, officials anticipate running 10 to 12 flights daily, with pricing discussions currently underway to finalize affordable rates. Sources indicate that services are expected to commence shortly.
Boosting Tourism with Aerial Perspectives
Officials emphasized that this initiative is designed to boost tourism by offering a unique aerial perspective of Odisha's diverse landscapes and heritage sites. The Joy Ride Scheme aligns with broader efforts to enhance visitor experiences and showcase the state's attractions from an innovative vantage point.
